There is one U.S. president who was from Hawaii: Barack Obama. Not only did he grow up on Oahu, but he still vacations here with his family. The 44th president of the U.S. typically rented a beach house in Kailua during his presidency, even though he grew up on King St in Honolulu.
2. Oprah Winfrey: Maui
Oprah Winfrey is one of the most famous celebrities that live in Hawaii. She owns a remote, sprawling ranch on the slopes of Maui’s Haleakala. Here, she’ll often host other celebrities and entertain her many friends.
Oprah will sometimes post on Instagram from her Maui home, and our guess is she comes here multiple times a year.
3. Jeff Bezos: Maui
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos recently bought a massive (and massively expensive) Maui Mansion for $78 million. The beachfront property near Makena has a swimming pool, a small beach, a guest house, and lots of privacy.
4. Beyonce and Jay Z: Oahu
This Hollywood power couple kicks back in a private estate in Kailua, in the same neighborhood where former President Obama vacations. This 15,000-square-foot-plus home sits on 1.5 lush acres with a rock-lined pool, eight bedrooms, and 11 baths, according to HGTV.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also has rented this Kailua home.
5. Willie Nelson: Maui
North Shore Maui residents often see celebrities hanging out in Paia. Willie Nelson is one famous figure who owns a home in the area. He was rumored to own Charley’s bar, though that’s up for debate. However, he did sometimes play music before the bar shut down a few years ago.
One of his sons is a full-time Maui resident.

Steven Tyler bought a home on Maui in 2012 and is frequently spotted roaming the island’s busy streets. He’s been known to make random appearances playing with famous musicians like Hawaii’s Willie K. and fellow Maui resident Mick Fleetwood.
