Enjoy a wonderful and exciting ride on our famous Waikiki Trolley, featuring fun driver guides who share the history of our island while keeping you entertained along one of the most beautiful routes in the world. The trolley has special access to the inside of the crater, so you won’t have to hike through the tunnel and mix with driving traffic. Once guests arrive in the park, they will receive their special deluxe audio guide and map before beginning their hike.
Following the hike, guests will return the audio guide to the visitor center where they will pick up their special gold-foiled “I Hiked Diamond Head” certificate before returning to Waikiki on the trolley.

Diamond Head State Monument is one of Hawaii’s most recognized landmarks. For decades, visitors have hiked to the summit of Diamond Head to enjoy breathtaking views of Oahu. Hawaii’s State Parks maintain Diamond Head State Monument, a popular historic trail offering a memorable Hawaiian adventure for the entire family.
Diamond Head Crater is just minutes from Waikiki. This incredible self-guided audio tour comes with a four-color souvenir map guide. It focuses on the history, legends, culture, geography, plant & animal life, music, and scenery of the Diamond Head State Monument. Learn how ancient Hawaiians considered Diamond Head a sacred location and how the US Military used Diamond Head as their first line of defense in protecting Oahu’s southern shores during World War II.
Things to Know:
- Diamond Head Visitor Center is currently open 7 days a week from 7 am to 2:30 pm. The last tour is at 2:30 pm. Audio devices must be returned to the Visitor Center no later than 3:30 pm. No tours are available on Christmas and New Year’s Day.
- Check in at the Diamond Head Visitor Center, the only location in Hawaii that offers the State of Hawaii’s exclusive Diamond Head logo merchandise.
- This is considered a “moderate 1.6-mile hike.” Dress casually with comfortable shoes, shorts, hats, and sunscreen.
- We do not recommend starting your hike from Waikiki. Please take “The Bus”, a taxi, a Diamond Head shuttle, or a rental car to the Diamond Head crater.
Important Information:
This Diamond Head tour does not include the admission/parking fees to get into the Diamond Head crater. The admission fee is $5.00 per person, and if driving into the crater, it is an additional $10.00 to park. Kama’aina is free with a valid Hawaii ID. Parking is limited.
