Rock-a-Hula: A Vegas-style show right here in Hawaii!

Hawaii Aloha Travel > Blog > Rock-a-Hula: A Vegas-style show right here in Hawaii!

It’s often said that Las Vegas is the ninth Hawaiian island, so it makes perfect sense that the Vegas-style show, Rock-a-Hula, has become so popular here in Hawaii.

I was recently invited to enjoy the Green Room Package at Rock-a-Hula because I work for Hawaii Aloha Travel. As a guest of Rock-a-Hula, I brought my camera and discerning blogger’s eyes so that I could give you my honest opinions.

Rock-a-Hula is a show located right in the heart of Waikiki that mixes the spirit of Aloha with the sparkle of Las Vegas. The show was revamped this past April, but it has been in Hawaii for over six years. The new show portrays a “Hawaiian Journey” from the 1920s to today through a mixture of Hawaiian acts and performances by tribute artists. It’s Vegas meets Hawaii!

Getting there and parking

While parking in Waikiki can be difficult, it was very easy to park. Rock-a-Hula is located in the Royal Hawaiian Theater inside the Royal Hawaiian Center. So, all you have to do is go to the Royal Hawaiian Center’s parking garage (not the parking garage for the Royal Hawaiian hotel – there is a difference!). Rock-a-Hula will validate your parking, so you will receive a discounted rate.

Green Room Package

There are many different packages depending on what you are looking for and what your budget allows. Some offer the VIP treatment with backstage tours, others offer a buffet, and others just guarantee you entry to the show.

I experienced the Green Rook Package, so, as soon as I got there, we went into the Green Room for champagne and appetizers and to meet the Katy Perry Tribute artist, who happily posed for pictures. Katy Perry fans will love this part of the evening!

Rock-a-Hula’s Green Room was inspired by Elvis Presley’s Green Room, which he modeled after his time in Hawaii.

From there, we went on the back stage tour. I loved seeing all of the costumes, dressing rooms, and props. We got to stand on the stage and hear about all of the insider things that make the show happen.

And then, we even got to go on stage!

After the tour, we sat down for dinner. The dinner was probably my favorite part of the entire experience. For our appetizer, we had lobster with rainbow salad, and our dinner was Tenderloin of Beef and Wild Alaskan Salmon with Sautéed Fresh Market Vegetables and Black Truffle Mashed Potatoes. For dessert, we had pineapple ice cream with macadamia nut crumble and toasted coconut.

Rock-a-Hula

If you like Vegas-style shows, you will love Rock-a-Hula. If you are looking for more of a traditional luau snow, this isn’t it. But I liked this show a lot because it combined traditional Hawaiian dances with modern-day favorites. Everyone could clap and sing along to old – and new – favorites.

The new Rock-A-Hula show whisks guests away on a distinctly “Hawaiian Journey” starting from Hawaii’s Boat Days era with tribute artists including Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and Katy Perry. The show incorporates a variety of Hawaiian elements, including hula dancing, Hawaiian music, and Hawaiian and Tahitian dance.

After the show, the tribute artists came out and posed for pictures with fans.
