Cat lovers visiting Hawaii get to tickle their fancies with a festival of viral cat videos. Dog lovers, on the other hand, get a festival filled with tail wagging and slobbery kisses. The Da Kine Canine Festival happens every year in the heart of Kailua.

Dozens of pooch and their owners make their way to the event for a barking good time. Even those without a furry friend enjoy the event. There were many people without dogs bending down to pet the ones that cruised around. I know of one visiting family that brought their kids to the festival after a day at the beach just to see the pooches.

In addition to vendors and booths that lined the parking garage near Whole Foods, a stage had been set up for live entertainment. The line-up included local performers and a costume and dog lookalike contest. Many get a kick out of the loudest bark competition, too.

Going on vacation often means you will have to leave your furry loved one behind. While they’re likely in good hands, you’re left missing them like crazy. Try to surround yourself with lots of animal love by attending events like these or even volunteering at an animal shelter. It will surely help to wipe away the sadness.
