Where did that cute cafe in Waimānalo come from?
We drove through the east O‘ahu town one weekend on our way to the beach, when a sudden rumble in my tumbly hit – changing our destination to one with food. The 7-11 convenience store we drove past didn’t appeal to my cravings nor did the Keneke’s plate lunch place. Disappointed, we concluded that the next nearest place to get grub would be Hawai‘i Kai (about 15 minutes away).
That is, until we reached a colorful-looking shop called the Waimanalo Beach Cafe. Parking in front seemed limited, but we managed to nab the last skinny space. When we walked in to the one-room parlor, two friendly ladies greeted us up front. There was an old piano and some art on the walls. Really cute decor that totally set the ambiance.
While the menu itself seemed a bit basic – breakfast and lunch sandwiches, as well as some pizzas, the food was still really tasty! We got the "Gorg" chicken sandwich and veggie hummus wrap. I was tempted to also get a coffee but decided it was too hot for that.
Apparently, there are new owners for this cafe, which is why the place takes on a fresher appeal. It’s probably also why we noticed the cafe this time around. A fresh paint job does a lot for a business. Make sure to check their Facebook page for early openings and $1 cups of coffee.
