Which Hawaiian Island Is Best For Couples?

There’s no single island that’s best for couples, because all islands in Hawaii are full of romantic places. Planning a love-filled vacation to Hawaii is less about choosing the right island and more about choosing the right activities.

What Are Good Things for Couples to Do in Hawaii?

There are all kinds of activities for couples throughout the islands. If you like to bond through adventures, you can book things like ziplining, helicopter tours, and guided hikes. If relaxation renews your connection, then you can reserve spa services or simply spend the day at the beach.

Maui Top Places for Couples

Many couples choose to visit Maui. This is a great place for couples to visit in Hawaii because it offers a nice balance: it’s not as busy as Oahu, but there are still lots of things to do.

Read on to discover our favorite locals on Maui for romance.

Haleakala at Sunrise

A Maui sunset is always romantic, but here’s one thing worth waking up early for. Haleakala is Maui’s dormant volcano and a national park. It’s beautiful to visit anytime, but it’s most famous for its incredible sunrises.

Be sure to make a reservation in advance for your Haleakala sunrise adventure. Not much of one for early mornings? Views here are still stunning at sunset.

Old Lahaina Luau

Not all luau in Hawaii feel romantic, but we think the Old Lahaina Luau is a great place for couples to visit. This authentic luau has a relaxed atmosphere with lots of space to walk around before the show and dinner begin.

Twin Falls

How about a waterfall adventure with your partner? Twin Falls is a great spot for a quick hike, a waterfall swim (when conditions are right), and a little time off the beach. The falls are on private property, so you’ll pay for parking and get to enjoy maintained trails. And if you’re not up for an all-day road trip, you’ll be happy to hear that this is one of the first stops on the infamous Road to Hana, so you can turn around after your waterfall swim.

The Hotel Wailea

Hotel Wailea in. Maui

Maui has a beautiful adults-only boutique hotel, and it’s one of the best places for couples to visit in Hawaii. If you choose to stay here, you’ll enjoy large rooms, a tranquil property, and luxury-level services. Or, come by for a romantic dinner and to enjoy the grounds. The architecture and landscaping lend romantic, Italian-style vibes while remaining true to its tropical setting.

Makena Cove

You’ll likely spend lots of time on the beach during your romantic Maui vacation, but if you want to explore new shorelines and find a fantastic space to watch the sunset, head out toward the island’s southern coast.

Visit at sunset, and you will likely witness multiple weddings and vow renewals happening at once. Why not join in on the fun? Book your own vow renewal with a local kahu and photographer to truly renew your romance in this beautiful spot.

Honolua Bay

If you want to do some snorkeling with your sweetie, head to the west end of Maui, where Honolua Bay offers a rocky shoreline teeming with colorful fish. But this is more than just a snorkel spot. The hike to the water is incredibly Instagram-worthy, and it’s all part of a fun road trip along Maui’s coastline.

Mama’s Fish House

Mama’s Fish House is probably the most famous restaurant on Maui. It’s a surprising achievement considering it’s not near anything – the quaint restaurant isn’t in or around a resort. Instead, it’s just outside of Paia town, on a quiet beachside setting that harkens serene romance. Dinners here are slow-paced and upscale, using only the freshest ingredients and served by attentive staff.

Kauai Best Places for Couples to Visit

Kauai is one of the most romantic places you’ll find anywhere. It has a slower pace and a lush, verdant environment. Sure, you can have sunny beach days in Kauai, but you can also cozy up under the green embrace of a Hawaii jungle. Sounds pretty romantic to us!

Kalalau Valley Overlook

Get away from it all by visiting Koke’e State Park and standing atop the Kalalau Valley overlook. It’s scenic and quiet here. You and your honey can spend as much time as you’d like gazing out upon the expanse – a green valley that stretches out into the bright blue ocean.

Hanapepe Town

Hanapepe is an adorable town on Kauai, and spending time here will feel like a true Hawaii date night. Pursue local shops and art galleries, eat local food, and enjoy the unique environment of a tropical small town. Come on Friday night, when the streets come to life with vendors, artists, and musicians for Hanapepe Art Night.

Beach House Restaurant

Dine on fresh seafood and sip craft cocktails as you enjoy premiere views of the ocean. The Beach House Restaurant on Kauai earns a spot as one of Hawaii’s most romantic restaurants, and you should definitely check it out during your love-filled getaway.

Hanalei Bay

Hanalei Bay is a fantastic place to swim, relax on the beach, or enjoy a long walk at sunset. The North Shore beach is a popular spot for locals and visitors alike, so you can do lots of people-watching. But it’s also spacious, giving you and your sweetheart space to enjoy the peace and quiet.

Wailua River

Fern grotto kauai

Hawaii has few navigable rivers, which makes the Wailua River even more unique and magical. There are lots of ways you can enjoy the sights and sounds of this Kauai waterway. Rent kayaks and explore, join a guided tour, or ride along on a boat excursion.

Relaxed romantics can enjoy a scenic journey to Fern Grotto. Or, join an adventurous kayak/hiking/swimming tour that takes you to incredible Wailua Falls.

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay

One of Hawaii’s newest hotels is also one of the best places for couples to visit. 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is centered on wellness, and it’s the perfect spot for a romantic spa day. Book a stay, a spa service, a dinner reservation, or all of the above, and feel rejuvenated as you reconnect with your partner.

Napali Coast

One of the most famous places in all of Hawaii is Kauai’s Napali Coast. This long stretch of uninhabited coastline is a wonder for all kinds of visitors, but especially couples. Experienced hikers can see the Napali Coast on foot, but we prefer to explore by boat or kayak.

Princeville Botanical Gardens

Walk through meandering garden paths, full of colorful blossoms, tropical fruit, and breathtaking scenery. Tours of Princeville Botanical Gardens include samples of chocolate, fruit, and honey. What could be sweeter than a tasty date to a gorgeous Kauai garden?

Oahu Couples Vacation: Best Places to Visit

Hawaii Date

Oahu is a popular island for anyone to visit, and it’s the perfect place for couples who want a little bit of everything during their Hawaii vacation. Shop, dine, and party in Waikiki. Get away from it all at Kualoa Ranch or Waimea Valley. And explore the small-town charm of North Shore. There are all kinds of beaches in Oahu and seemingly endless activities.

Kaena Point

One of the most remote areas of Oahu is Kaena Point, which is on the westernmost edge of the island. You can access the point via hiking trails that start on either the west end or north shore of the island. A visit from the west end also grants you access to Yokohama Beach Park, a quiet and sprawling shoreline that’s perfect for a romantic walk.

The Aha’aina Luau at the Royal Hawaiian

If you want to visit a luau during your romantic getaway to Oahu, we recommend the Aha’aina Luau at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. It’s a bit more upscale and low-key than other Hawaii luau, and you’ll be able to enjoy music, dance, and food in their beautiful, historic hotel.

Waimea Valley

Waimea Valley is a beautiful local on Oahu’s north shore. It’s a private preserve that charges admission, but that price provides you with an easy paved hike complete with informational placards, a lifeguarded waterfall swim with lifejackets, and a more relaxed experience than you might get from a public-access trailhead (those are often hard to find with limited parking). Learn more about why Waimea Valley is worth it here!

La Mer

You don’t have to splurge on a fancy dinner to have a romantic night out on Oahu, but sometimes, an upscale meal is the cherry on top of a delectable vacation. La Mer is one of the fanciest restaurants in all of Hawaii. Their chic, beachside dining room and ultra-fine cuisine will make you feel like royalty.

Waikiki Beach at Sunset

Sure, Waikiki is a busy place full of tourists. But its core draw remains strong. Here, the ocean is calm and glistening. Sunsets are vibrant. Views are unsurpassed. And as the sun goes down, it’s the perfect place to take a romantic stroll.

Sure, you won’t have the beach to yourself, but you’ll still be able to hold hands, take in the views, and know you’re in the exact spot where millions of couples have found romance and adventure.

The Ritz-Carlton Oahu, Turtle Bay: Best Places for Couples to Stay in Hawaii

If you’re looking for a romantic hotel on Oahu, you’ve got to check out Turtle Bay. It’s recently renovated and has incredible dining and onsite amenities. It’s also secluded – away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Plus, onsite activities, pools, and beach access mean you can have a great vacation without having to drive from place to place.

Kualoa Ranch

Kualoa Ranch on Oahu

There are many things to do at Kualoa Ranch, a sprawling 4,000-acre property with a private beach, a deep jungle, horseback riding, UTV tours, ziplining, and catamaran excursions. This is a beautiful place to find adventure and enjoy the rugged terrain of rural Oahu.

Lanikai Beach

Lanikai Beach is one of the best beaches in the world (according to experts!), and there’s lots for couples to do when they visit this famous place in Hawaii. Kayak, swim, sunbathe, snorkel, and picnic while enjoying the scenery. It’s about a half mile long, so it’s also great for short, relaxed beach walks.

Hawaii Island Best Places for Couples to Visit

Hawaii Island (The Big Island) holds active volcanoes, black sand beaches, majestic waterfalls, and sweeping vistas. Sounds like a dream romantic getaway! This is Hawaii’s largest island, and there are so many places that couples will love to visit!

Mauna Kea

Mauna Kea at Night

If your love makes you feel on top of the world, it’s only fitting to reach new heights in Hawaii. Mauna Kea is the highest spot in the state, and stargazing here is spectacular. Bundle up and stand atop a mountain that is taller than Everest (if you count from the ocean floor!).

Kulaniapia Falls

Aren’t waterfalls so romantic? We especially love Kulaniapia Falls on Hawaii Island. This wonder is located on a gorgeous private property that offers accommodations, day passes, farm tours, chef’s table dinners, and waterfall rappelling.

Lava Lava Beach Club

When you imagine the ideal Hawaii dinner, you probably picture something like Lava Lava Beach Club, a classic tropical restaurant featuring vibrant cocktails, local ingredients, and an oceanfront setting that can’t be beat. Come at sunset for a romantic dinner.

Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park

Couples who love to explore should visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, one of the best places for sightseeing in the islands. Come here to see the glow of Kilauea, a lush lava cave, and a desolate rocky landscape. This is where you can take a scenic drive, hike, and learn about the varied landscapes of Hawaii’s volcanoes.

Hapuna Beach

Hapuna Beach is one of the best places for couples to visit in hawaii

Hapuna Beach is a large, white sand beach that is perfect for a day of fun in the sun. It’s located on Hawaii Island’s Kohala Coast and is worth the drive no matter where you’re staying. Come early for quieter, calmer conditions, or at sunset for a relaxing walk along the shoreline.

Four Seasons Resort Hualalai

A stay at a Four Seasons property is always romantic, and the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai is among the best. There’s a swimmable aquarium, an adults-only pool, and gorgeous accommodations. But even if you’re not booking a room at the stunning resort, you can still come by for a spa service, cocktail, dinner, or a walk along the grounds.

Liliuokalani Gardens

Here’s a free place for couples to visit on Hawaii Island. Liliuokalani Gardens is one of the best places to spend a few minutes in Hilo. There are quaint pathways, lovely landscaping, and ocean views. Make it part of a fun day exploring the town.
