With the new improvements to Waikiki comes a lot more nightlife added to the scene in famed Waikiki on Oahu.
Senor Frogs is a newer nightclub located on the second floor of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. Don’t let the long line fool you some nights it does usually move rather quickly. They offer fun things going on in the middle of the night club scene. On the night we went they had people dressed in costume doing a dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller song. Also was a "surfer dude" carried on top a surf board around the club as if surfing through the crowd. Some nights is packed as this is a night club hot spot in waikiki, but it’s fun and adventurous and fun for those wanting to just go out and dance the night away with locals and visitors alike.
The yardhouse is another bar in waikiki at the embassy suites waikiki on the new beachwalk project. For the beer lover this place has 130 beers on tap. It’s a little more bar and grill than senor frogs is more like a night club. Has a little more of a relaxed feel to it with food and drink. If you love beer this is a place to be in waikiki!
Another new addition to waikiki is the Rum fire located on the ground floor of the Sheraton Waikiki. This new hot spot is located oceanfront in waikiki and features the largest selection of vintage rum in the US as well as an exotic blend of tapas-style cuisine and fire pits adorning their 7000 square foot interior. Live entertainment is offered 5 days a week , tuesday through saturday from 5pm-7pm, and every 2nd and 4th saturday from 9pm-2am with notable local musicians. Also start your night with the Pau Hana (finished work, after work) specials in waikiki daily from 4pm-6pm. This bar is open for dinner from 4pm to 11pm and late night cocktails til 2am.
And last but not least, not a new property, but a favorite. Duke’s bar and grill located in the lobby of the Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach. This establishment has been home to great food, great drinks, great music and great fun. Also located on the oceanfront in waikiki.
Remember to take advantage of those "Pau Hana" specials or Happy Hour pricing in waikiki. If you are looking for a vacation where you can enjoy some night clubbing and enjoying that mai tai, lava flow or blue hawaii on hawaii’s famous waikiki beach call Hawaii Aloha Travel today to start planning your exciting and exotic vacation.

One of the popular cruises for Hawaii is Norwegian Cruiseline’s 7 day hawaii sail. It is the best way to visit many islands in a shorter period of time.
I had gone on the Pride of Hawaii in December of 2007. This ship is no longer sailing but her sister ship The Pride of America is, which does pretty much the same itienrary as the pride of hawaii did and is also freestyle cruising.
I enjoy the freestyle cruising and I think it is actually the perfect way to cruise hawaii. Hawaii is very laid back and a vacation where it is time to relax kick back enjoy the sun, get rid of the heels and throw on the "rubba slippahs". Being freestyle in my opinion helps to add to that. You eat when you want, when you are hungry, not when someone tells you to. You don’t have to dress up if you don’t want to but you have that option if you do.
It was my son’s 6 year birthday and reason for taking the cruise to celebrate and he had a wonderful time on the ship and on each of the islands. Here is some of what you can expect on the 7 day NCL cruise.
Upon boarding our room was not yet ready so we went to the buffet and we had some lunch while we waited.
View of the pier in honolulu in the background. He thought it was great he could get a pizza and a burger!
When our room was ready we went on up. Our bags werent up yet so we just went to check out our cabin and then went back out to explore the ship. Our bags came up a little later in the evening. (from our balcony we could see the bags on the pier. Those guys work hard with that luggage..BE PATIENT).
When our luggage came up we unpacked and our luggage fit nicely under our beds and out of the way. We got ready and went to dinner and to check out the kids club.
The kids club was great and free til a certain time and then you could opt to pay them to babysit til 1am when the bars close so you can go out and enjoy. (No need to feel guilty either as some moms on the ship did). They had movies and a nintendo Wii onboard…he didn’t miss me at all! The crew for the kids club was fantastic and a fun bunch. We could always here them when walking up having fun just by themselves…very enthusiastic for the kids. The nights were themed and every day on land my son made sure we went back on time so he didn’t miss his party every night. They even took them to the magic show onboard one night which they loved.
entrance to kids club "Unbirthday , birthday night"
"Prince and Princess night" "Pirate Night"
"Pajama party night"-rough night apparently.
This was his real birthday night in the grand ballroom, his free birthday cake and they all came around to sing happy birthday to him.
We got off on all islands and just rented a car and went out exploring on our own. We hit volcanoes national park on the big island. In Maui a friend flew up to visit us and we all stayed at the hyatt overnight , we went to kauai in search of Puka Dogs. A freak storm did pass through hawaii just in that week we were on the ship so it did storm a lot while we were sailing which was out of the blue weather that happened and couldn’t be helped, but we made the best of it anyways. The captain did a great job of finding calm waters and sunny patches so the guests could still enjoy the pool and outdoor amenities on the ship.
Shirley our cabin steward was great. She always made sure she left my son a towel animal everynight and would stop and talk with us while she showed us how to make them. She did an amazing job with our cabin and it always seemed a lot bigger when we returned as she cleaned it so well and put things away seeming to create more space for us.
Of course we visited the bars onboard the ship. The bartenders were great. We frequented one certain bar because the bartenders were a lot of fun..but we did go dancing one night in the dance club on board. Our great bartenders even did a cocktail pose for me. (no they don’t really flip the bottles onboard but its a fun picture anyway)
Our bartenders flashing hawaii’s "shaka" Our bartenders doing th cocktail movie pose for us.
We caught a lot of beautiful sights from our balcony which I would recommend getting. Since the seas were rough the boat rocked a bit but mainly from the storm. Even though it was rough no one really got sick onboard, but sitting out on the balcony definately made me feel a little better sometimes. Because it was during whale watch season we even caught sight of some whales as we were leaving kauai….almost like a free tour!
We did dinner one night at the teppanyaki which was a ton of fun and one of the cover charge restaurants, but well worth it. Other than that we ate at the places that were free meals and we had a to of selections of free places to eat as well.
We had a great cruise all in all. I would definately do it again if I had the chance. We did not encounter any rude staff contrary to what people post on websites which is a concern I find people ask a lot. They were all very friendly and were like friends by the end of the cruise.
Cruising the hawaiian islands is a great route to go, especially for those people looking to do either many islands in a short amount of time or for those looking for that vacation with your meals included for hawaii.

The Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach hotel was really a very pleasant experience for me. The employees of this hotel really make you feel welcome from the very start.
As we arrive at the hotel early for check in I ask if they would hold my bags for me while I went to a meeting and I would come back and check in. Of course they were more than happy to assist me with that, but the guy out front was a real local guy who really just made you feel welcome.
Upon going up the escalator to the lobby area there was another nice young man there to greet me even before I made it to the check in desk area. They had nice cold water set up for their guests and their check in area you go up and sit down at the desk with an agent. That was a really nice touch. Makes you feel welcome. They also gave my son a cute backpack with a pair of sunglasses , a book and some binoculars that he enjoyed.
Right after checking in we didnt’ even go to our room yet and the nice young boy mentioned above asked us if we wanted to join in on the cookie making.
We were there in december and they were doing christmas cookie decorating with the kids , and adults could join in too. They do activities with the guests every day it’s something different. The nice thing that he told me was…well it’s raining outside so we thought we would give the kids something to do in doors for a little while. It’s all free and they do it out of the kindness of their hearts not to make a quick buck off their guests. He then said well let’s make kukui nut bracelets..i’ll get the things and we made bracelets as well.
Cookie Making (that’s his binoculars the hotel gave to him) Kukui nut bracelet Beautiful painting on the wall of the lobby.
The rooms here were a nice size and very hawaiiana decor. The bathroom was very big and the desk area was very comfortable. In fact many days I worked at the desk with the door open hearing the sounds of the ocean in the background.
Dresser and part of the bed and tv stand My little work station next to the balcony (notice the cute pineapple lamp) View from my balcony picture of the sink (i was standing inside the closet)
They have duke’s bar and grill downstairs on the ground floor which is a very popular place to go for a drink or even a meal, a seattle’s best coffee downstairs, a little store for snacks and drinks and any other little trinkets, a jewlery store, a bathing suit shop and other little stores in the downstairs area.
All in all I really did enjoy my stay at the outrigger waikiki on the beach The employees sincerely make you feel welcome and glad that you came to stay with them. You can stay here doing an air/land package with us or even in our exclusive all inclusive carefree package. This package is offered to you exclusively from hawaii aloha travel and the outrigger is one of the choices of hotels to choose from.
Call today to book your wonderful stay at this beautiful oceanfront hotel.
A friend of mine had a great suggestion one night to go to dinner in Waikiki to a restaurant called Mac 24/7. This restaurant is located in the downstairs area of the hilton prince kuhio.
It’s almost like a little gem hidden away in this hotel. It is open , well 24/7 just like their name. You can even get pancakes at night. The atmosphere was really nice and our waitress was great!
YES they were huge! Not ours but the waitress told us to hang around and wait to see these monsters!
This was a really great find in waikiki. The price is pretty reasonable in my opinion. To give you an idea..Our bill was somewhere in the range of $75.00, for 2 adults/and a child. We also had 2 drinks (alcoholic) so , well in waikiki those do add some to your bill I will admit. Plus desert.
We had started off sharing the oriental salad which was so good. Then we each had sandwhiches. I the club, my friend the rueben and my son had a hot dog and fries. That was the nice thing about this place. It looks very classy (the decor) yet you can still take the kids and get them a burger or a hot dog. They had put deep fried pickles as the garnish, which to me is genius. As a former waitress I can’t tell you how many people leave the pickles on their plate that get thrown away…but batter it and fry it and people will eat it up!
Front of restaurant (entrance)

The desert was the best. We had their "cupcake" which was like a gigantic chocolate muffin with peanut butter in the center. My son had his $5.00 shake (yes that is the name of it as well.)
Our desert (chocolate with peanut butter center)
If you are looking for a nice place to eat in mid range would be my opinion of their pricing here this is a great place to eat especially if you are out looking for a late night treat!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Resort Quest Waikiki Beach Hotel on Oahu. I really enjoyed this hotel. Location is great, close to shops and restaurants and also the beach is right across the street.
Front desk staff was awesome. They gave my son his resortquest back pack (which secretly I enjoy for carrying my things for traveling so I took it from him). The bag contained a coloring book and color crayons which he enjoyed. They also gave us our discount book upon check in and his kids pass to take with him as children can eat for free at participating restaurants with a paying adult.
The lobby is decorated in a very fun way with their surf boards. Valet service was fast and very friendly. Lobby also had lots of comfy sofa’s to sit on while waiting or just wanting to sit out and catch some fresh hawaii air. There are also restaurants on property. They have a wolfgang puck’s express right in the lobby, a subway also right around the corner (also with a delicious cookie shop in the same place), ice cream and burger king right across the street. There are also many other restaurants within very close walking distance to this hotel as well.
The views were great. We were not all the way at the top of the hotel but we still had some nice views. Rooms were clean and a decent size. Beds were comfortable and they also sport the LG flat screens that I am getting used to seeing in hotels..but they are so much better than the old tv’s hotels were using..really makes a difference.
Their theme is really hawaiiana, so you see a lot of aloha print and surf boards, but why not? You are in hawaii , you should feel like it. The front desk employee even called right after we got to our room to check that everything was okay and ask if we needed anything. What service!
I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone visiting hawaii. It is a great value for it’s location, cleanliness, and great service.
Enjoy the pictures~

On My travels back home to Hawaii I stayed twice at the hyatt regency waikiki, which I did stay at before. I however have many pictures to share with you this time as well.
Open air lobby with shops at the hyatt regency waikiki
I had another wonderful stay at this property (both times). The valet service and bellmen again quick as expected. The front desk was great and very friendly. It was such a nice time to be staying as they were putting up their decorations and getting ready for christmas. This time instead of a cityview room I got a deluxe ocean room both times, however the second time I checked in I got a much higher floor. There were some differences in the room. The higher floor was bigger and did have the LG flat screen TV. When I was in the cityview last year and also in the ocean room on the 6th floor this time they did not have the flat screens in them yet.
Mele Kalikimaka at the hyatt. That is myself and my son with santa one of the employees was nice enough to take for us.
This was the second bigger room with the LG flat screen tv and king bed.
This is the bathroom. This bathroom was much bigger then my last 2 rooms. It was seperated by a wall which you can get a glimpse of in the first picture on the left..made it feel like an entire seperate room.
Again the internet is T-mobile hotspot and wireless. If you have T-mobile service and need internet for your stay it’s much cheaper to add it to your monthly bill and take it off the next month instead of paying a daily fee.
Aloha Business Center
If getting an ocean or deluxe ocean room here I definately recommend putting in a request for a high floor. Remembering it’s not guaranteed that they will give it to you but it doesn’t hurt to request it and the view is why which you can see below.
I took this one sitting on the bed.
This was taken sitting on the balcony.
All in all I have stayed here 3 times and I have been very satisified all 3 times staying here. Rooms are clean and spacious. Check in is always quick and friendly. Valet and bell service is always fast and friendly as well. Room service is not the cheapest but then again no room service is in waikiki, but the food is very good and again we easily would walk to burger king, KFC, chili’s, denny’s and subway and bring food back to the room most nights or just eat there. Not a far walk at all!
Again I would recommend this property in waikiki as I have before, but thought I would write again to share my pictures as well. Hope you enjoy them and hope to hear from you soon!

I recently had the pleasure of doing a site inspection of the Sheraton Waikiki and would like to share my thoughts of the property with all of you thinking about traveling to Oahu for your next vacation. This property is a great property for all travelers. It’s good for couples, families and buisness travelers alike. It is right in the heart of waikiki yet set back from kalakaua avenue so while you are in waikiki you don’t get the street noise and such of waikiki’s night life and day time activities.
They are in the process of finishing up a sandwhich type bar with a healthier alternative lunch choices with fresh ingedients to create your own lunch sandwhiches the way you would like them. They are also almost finished with their rum bar as well. Both are located next to the pool. The property does a very good job of disguising their work as I didn’t even notice it until she pointed it out to me. It is almost completed and should be done this month.
One thing I noticed right away when going up to a room at this property is the amount of elevators that they have. They had 8 elevators at the property which makes it a nice short wait for one. The elevator button was really neat too and unique I think. Its a stand in the middle of the floor with 4 elevators on each side, but it is displayed in a very beautiful manor. (Yes I took a picture of it that will come soon so please check back). Yes that is the button for the elevators. I thought it was very pretty.
The shape of the building is also very clever utilizing it’s oceanfront location to full advantage. Two thirds of the property are oceanview rooms and even when getting a non oceanview room I was told some of the guests are pleasantly surprised by the view.
The Rooms
The person who designed these hotel rooms really needs to be commended. There is great utilization of space here. Even though the rooms are not huge they feel as if they are quite big. Instead of the bulk dressers you normally find in hotel rooms they have cleverly mounted their flat scree tv’s on the wall with a stylish shelf under it so that you still have something to set your keys and drinks, etc. on top of.
Sheraton Waikiki Beds and desk.
Sheraton wall mounted flat screen with those shelves I was talking about and yes my son loves to get in the pictures as I’m snapping it.
Here is the pass through I was talking about that goes to the bathroom..makes the room feel bigger when it’s open too.
There he is again..that is the toilet and sink on the other side of the pass through area.
So where are the drawers? Well they have built in their closet shelves to put your clothes in on one side and you can hang clothes on the other. The bathrooms were spacious and they have a divider between the room and the bathroom. In the divider it is like a countertop normally you see these like in kitchens with a pass through to the next room, however you can close the partition for privacy or open them and have that great view from the bathroom as well or still keep an eye on the children while in the bathroom. When the partition is open it also makes the room feel a little more roomy as well.
There are those shelves for clothes instead of the drawers. The other side of the closet is for hanging. (for someone like me clever! because I honestly never use the drawers so they normally just take up space)
The View
Now for the exceptional part. The View was so spectacular. The property sits up so close to the ocean that when looking out you almost feel as if your hotel is sitting right on the water. I got to see it during the day but I can just imagine how peaceful it gets at night when it quiets down and all you hear is the sound of the ocean.
That is the view from in the room with the door closed. I thought I was clever getting the logo in there.
How gorgeous is that? You can’t get much closer to ocean! that is also just one of their pools, they have another one to the left of that one as well.
This is a great location in waikiki, being right in the heart of waikiki so easier walking distance both ways up and down waikiki as well as being right almost in royal hawaiian shopping center for shopping, yet set back from the street in waikiki so you still get the quieter atmosphere as well.
I would definately recommend this property to all types of travelers staying in waikiki. It’s definately worth the little extra money for an oceanfront proprty with an oceanfront rooms. When they have promotions on their oceanfront rooms they are really a steal.

Well it would only be fitting to blog in pink about the Royal Hawaiian Hotel otherwise known as "The Pink Palace"
Again like the Moana Surfrider the Royal Hawaiian has the feel of old hawaii, yet elegant and beautiful. Most people know this hotel by it’s signature pink color. It was so nice and refreshing to go to this property. I remember going here when I was a little girl and it really is a special place.
2 Double beds in a room at the royal hawaiian
The big plus here that I immediately felt while walking the halls of the downstairs area is that what I get a lot is that people don’t want to stay in waikiki because of all the city, but walking off the street of waikiki to this property was like walking into it’s own world. It was so quiet and peaceful. You can walk through the shops and visit all the stores and not a sound from the streets of waikiki. It really did amaze me how quiet it got there. As a child I never paid attention to those kinds of things of course so coming back to visit the pink palace I took notice to different things such as that.
The Lighting was bad. but the towels hanging and the bin under sink are all pink! Much Better lighting now you can see it in all it’s pickness!
The tower rooms have been renovated pretty recently. The rooms are beautiful and again, me and my balconies of course I loved their balconies. Again they were cement balconies not the type with the bars which for me I love with children because it feels a lot safer. The views not only of the ocean but of the area below are beautiful. You get to look out and down onto the beach and because they put out their pink umbrellas on the beach it makes for a really pretty site. They have their own private portion of the beach outside of their hotel and what that means is there is a portion of the beach right out front of the hotel that is roped off from the public portion of the beach. Lounge chairs with their pink umbrellas are set up right outside for their guests only. This portion does not go all the way out to the water, but you certainly can go for a swim and come back to your lounge chair within their own private portion which makes it nice so it’s not overly crowded wherever you sit on the beach.
The View from an ocean room (see the line of pink umbrellas? That is their part of the beach for their guests only)
The rooms in the tower wing were nicely done and like the moana surfrider they have also put in large flat screen tv’s. They said they probaby won’t do much renovations to the tower wing since they were redone not long ago. The hotel is closing down june of 2008 for 6 months to do major renovations to the property. They will be adding a huge oceanfront spa to their property.
If planning to come to hawaii before june 2008 this would make a great property to stay at. I was told they should be running some good specials to look for and it would be nice to stay in this beautiful pink palace and have the memories of the hotel the way it was in old hawaii. They will still be keeping their signature pink color when doing the renovations as well.
Starwood properties have been looking into how to make things better and in 2008 you should see a lot of new things from them. They will start adding guaranteed connecting rooms for those families who have more than 4 occupants, but yet want the security of knowing they will have guaranteed connecting rooms and also more room with daily breakfast specials to come out soon.
If planning a wedding the moana surfrider and the royal hawaiian make perfect locations to get married.
So don’t wait book your stay at the royal hawaiin "pink palace" before June of 2008 to experience the elegance of old hawaii.

Today I got a chance to go and see the Moana Surfrider which is branded Westin property in Waikiki.
The experience was great. The staff was so friendly and very welcoming. The Moana hotel originally took over the Surfrider and combined them into one creating the Moana Surfrider Hotel. This hotel has a very charming look to it and really makes you kind of feel like you are in old hawaii. There are two wings to the property. The Tower Wing and the Historic Wing. The Tower wing rooms have been renovated and are very spacious. Views from the balcony are gorgeous views of waikiki beach. (pictures to come)
The Lobby of the Moana Surfrider (Waikiki) The Heavenly Bed at the Moana Surfrider (Tower Wing) The View from the Moana Surfrider Tower Wing
When doing the renovations and building the connection between the moana and the surfrider the construction company found crown molding throughout and actually found the original blueprints in the process and discovered that just about the entire hotel was done in crown molding making it impossible for them to redo the structure. When going to this hotel most of what you see is the original with retouches which actually gives it a very nice feel of old hawaii, but yet still redone to look just as beautiful.
In the historic wing there are very few rooms that actually have balconies. The smaller rooms there are quite small and give you more of a bed and breakfast kind of feel to it. If wanting to stay in the historic wing with a bigger room you should book the larger rooms which are more towards the size of the tower wing. The rooms in both towers however are furnished very nicely and have the heavenly products in them. Even the cribs and the rollaways are the heavenly line.
This hotel really gives the feeling of the hawaii of old, but still with an elegant new feel to it as well. I would definately recommend this hotel if coming to Oahu as a great oceanfront property. Location is great, staff is awesome and rooms are very beautifully done with nice furnishings.
I took many pictures of the property and rooms so come back and visit my blog sometime for the pictures to come!

Now that you have booked your trip, gotten all the details worked out and it’s getting close to your departure date, there is still more preparing for you to do pre travel.
Flights schedules and carry-ons.
The day before you are traveling don’t forget to call and check with the airline or check on their website for any last minute schedule changes. Here at Hawaii Aloha Travel we will send a notice of a schedule change before hand even if it is just a 5 minute change or so, however we are not alerted to any very last minute changes that may occur. Our documents have the phone number and website to the airline for you to call , making it convenient for you to have it at your fingertips to check your flight schedule the night before your departure.
For Carry-on luggage you want to be sure that the bag can fit in the overhead or under the seat to store during flight, but what should you pack?
-things to do in flight, bring a book, if you have children pack some colors or maybe a portable game system to keep them busy. Bring work with you that you can get done while in flight.
-bring snacks on board. I travel with a little one and I always carry snacks on board for him. On domestic flights nowadays they don’t serve free meals. Or very rarely do they serve meals. There are one or two airlines that will still serve meals on domestic flights and unless you are flying first class you won’t have any free meals. Most airlines will serve sandwiches or snack boxes for a fee. Usually approx. $5.00 each. If you have a long flight though you may want to pack something to tide you over, especially if you have some short layovers not allowing you enough time to walk to grab something to eat.
-If traveling with a lap top you can take those on board the aircraft. I suggest taking it on board with you rather than checking it into luggage. You are allowed one laptop and a carry-on or a laptop and a purse on board the plane.
-Also for updated information on what is allowed and not allowed on board the plane check the transportation security administrations website for the latest rules and regulations for onboard items.
Arrive early for your flight!!!!
Be sure that you leave the house in plenty of time to get to the airport. Always take into account traffic delays when you are planning what time to leave. You should arrive at the airport about 2 hours early for your flight so however far you are from the airport and if it’s traffic hour should determine what time you should leave your house.
What to pack and how to pack!
Baggage Limit.
-Each passenger is allowed 2 , 50lbs. pieces of luggage. If your bags are over that weight limit the airlines will charge a fee per piece that is overweight. Generally it is approx. $25.00 per bag that is 51-75lbs., however all airlines are different. Some are stricter than others and you may get an agent who will let you go at 51 or 52 pounds, but by all rights they do have the right to charge you even if it is 1 pound over weight. So try to even out the weight between your suitcases.
You may also not want to pack your bags to full and leave some room to bring home some souvenirs.
What to pack.
-For Hawaii typically you will want to pack summer clothes. Being that the temperatures range in the 80’s year round. So shorts, capri pants, skirts, tank tops , t-shirts, and don’t forget your bathing suit either. You may throw in there a light jacket for a breezy night or maybe at a show where the A/C is on. Remember in hawaii not only are the people very laid back , the attire is as well. You won’t need to bring a suit and tie (unless maybe you are getting married). Not even for a formal dinner night unless you want to. It’s very rare to see suit and ties in hawaii or formal evening gowns other than balls and proms.
How to pack.
-Not only should you even out your weight in the suit cases. If you are traveling as a family or even a couple try packing clothes for each of you in all the suitcases. Not saying that your luggage will get lost, but let’s face it. It happens. In the event one of the pieces of luggage is lost at least everyone will still have something that they can change into and not one person has nothing while everyone else has all their things.
So you if you have not planned your spring break, summer 08 or even last minute holiday vacations yet give us a call or visit us on our website.
