A New Kind of Nighttime Hawaii Magic Comes to Kāʻanapali

If you’re looking for something different to do after sunset on Maui—something intimate, funny, and genuinely memorable—this Hawaii magic experience is a new reason to head to Kāʻanapali Beach. Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows has launched Kuraya, a weekly oceanfront magic show starring Maui-born magician David Kuraya, and it’s not your typical resort entertainment.

Hawaii Aloha Travel is a Hawaii-based travel agency that has been planning custom Hawaii vacations for first-time visitors for over 20 years. We live here, book Hawaii daily, and explain the things most travel sites gloss over.

Debuting Tuesday, January 27, the show runs every Tuesday evening from 6:00–8:00 p.m. inside the resort’s newly renovated, oceanfront Hale Piʻilani Room. The setting is small by design, which means guests aren’t watching magic from the back of a theater—they’re part of it.

What Makes Kuraya Different

This Hawaii Magic isn’t a big, flashy illusion show. Kuraya blends close-up sleight-of-hand, storytelling, and sharp humor into a one-man performance that works because of how personal it feels. David Kuraya performs Hawaii Magic just feet away from the audience, creating moments that are surprising, funny, and interactive without being cheesy or forced.

It’s also a natural fit for Royal Lahaina, which has been steadily expanding its evening offerings beyond the usual. Between nightly live music at The Branches, the long-running Myths of Maui luau, and now Kuraya, the resort is leaning hard into experiences that highlight local talent instead of generic mainland imports.

A Local Story with Deep Roots

David Kuraya’s story is very much a Maui Hawaii Magic story. Raised on the island, he’s spent more than a decade performing professionally and is widely recognized as one of Hawaiʻi’s most skilled sleight-of-hand magicians. He’s appeared at Hollywood’s world-famous Magic Castle, but his foundation was built closer to home at Lahaina’s legendary Warren & Annabelle’s Magic, where he trained under master magician Warren Gibson.

Over the years, Kuraya has worn many hats on Maui strolling magician for Tony Robbins’ “Connect to My Essence” seminar, Magician in Residence at Five Palms Restaurant, and headliner of the long-running Magic Attic show at The Maui Coffee Attic. Before going full-time in entertainment, he even spent 12 years as a band teacher, which explains his natural rhythm on stage and ease with audiences of all ages.

Tickets, Age Limits, and What’s Included

General admission tickets start at $99 and include complimentary parking, family-style hors d’oeuvres, and two included drinks. VIP seating is available for $125 for guests who want the best sightlines and closest interaction. Additional beverages are available for purchase.

The show is open to guests ages 12 and up and is available to both overnight resort guests and the general public. Seating is limited, so advance reservations aren’t just recommended—they’re smart.

Local residents can also take advantage of a kamaʻāina rate with 10% savings.

Why This Matters for Maui Right Now

Beyond entertainment, Kuraya represents something bigger. After the wildfires that tragically impacted Lahaina—including Warren & Annabelle’s, where David honed his craft—this show is part of a broader effort to keep Maui’s creative community visible and supported. Through his Maui Kuraya Gifts initiative, David also channels proceeds back into the local community, turning performance into purpose.

For visitors, it’s a chance to experience something authentic and Maui-rooted. For locals, it’s a reminder that great things are still being created here—quietly, thoughtfully, and with heart.
