Last week the state of Hawaii launched the Safe Travels program as part of the process to welcome more travelers back to Hawaii safely. While there were some bumps in the road, we generally found travelers were patient and understood this new program was implemented to benefit their safety and as well as the safety of our shared island communities. One of the issues was longer than necessary lines as deplaning passengers went thru the health and testing checks upon arrival for Hawaii. Compliance with all three will greatly reduce the wait times as the required documents are checked. There are THREE steps all travelers must complete prior to arrival:
The Safe Travels digital program is a mandatory online form for ALL travelers to complete. People need to visit the site: https://travel.hawaii.gov/#/, create a profile, and enter their trip information.
All travelers must take a COVID-19 test from ONLY a Hawaii Trusted Testing and Travel Partner: https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel-partners/. Test results will ONLY be accepted from this partner list.
24 hours prior to departure and before boarding the plane, all travelers must log back into their Safe Travels’ account, answer a health questionnaire, and upload their negative test results. When all of that information is complete, travelers will receive a QR code. The key information on the following is “In Quarantine – No.” This will allow the traveler to rent a car and check into their accommodation.
Following these three essential steps will greatly speed up the process in Hawaii’s airports and decrease the time your guests spend waiting in line. A large percentage of the passengers from the past four days had not completed the Safe Travels form in advance and this dramatically increased the wait time for everyone in line. More information about this process and FAQs continue to be added to the Department of Health Safe Travels site: https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel/.
We are also requesting travel advisors to share the important Health and Safety Video with your clients prior to arriving in Hawaii. This video was created to educate our visitors about the new health and safety protocols such as mandatory mask-wearing in enclosed businesses and spaces and the practice of social distancing. https://vimeo.com/442897954/f79360d1c5.
