If you’re going to be on Oahu during a Halloween, you don’t want to miss the haunted Lagoon at the Polynesian Cultural Center. This is one of Hawaii’s scariest attractions for the holiday and includes a spooky canoe ride at the centers lagoon. Last year over 44,000 participated making it the most visited attraction of this kind in the state. This year promises to be even more scary with revamped special effects. The story and theme of the attraction centers around the legend of Laie Lady. As the tale is told, she is very restless and contains a vengeful spirit that is haunting her because of a tragedy that happened to her many years ago and now she wanders around the lagoon searching for her murdered husband and her lost son. For more information you can contact the Polynesian cultural Center directly or give us a call at 1-800-843-8771.

Room rates are climbing higher for Hawaii hotels. These numbers reflect that daily room night increases on all islands. The daily room rate breakdown breakdown is as follows:

  • Oahu $154.06
  • Maui $238.00
  • Kauai $192.83
  • Big Island $ 191.97

Coming to the island of Oahu? Chances are you’ll be staying in Waikiki. 99% of the hotels are located there. Very often the focus is on the central part of Waikiki or Diamond Head side of this area. However, there’s a part of Waikiki which is a little more private and less busy which I call the Ala Moana Side. This part of Waikiki is on the northern side near the famous Hilton Hawaiian Village. There are several properties to choose from including the Ilikai Hotel and now the brand-new Waikiki Edition.

Some people think that it’s far from the beach but it really isn’t. In fact, most of the hotels located here have beach access and it’s just a short walk to Ala Moana Park has a beautiful beach and kid friendly, swimmable, shallow and you never have to worry about big waves. Very often there are festivals and events which take place in the park which are free. It’s also walking distance to one of the largest malls in the country called Ala Moana Center. You’ll find some of the best shopping in the entire world here which has famous stores including Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Armani and more.
