Halawa Valley, located in eastern Molokai, is believed to be an ancient Polynesian settlement and boasts a 250-foot waterfall. Central Molokai is home to Kalaupapa National Historic Park and the Kalaupapa Peninsula. The national park features the tallest sea cliffs in the world, and housed the secluded settlement colony of Kalaupapa where father Damien established the parish of Saint Philomena and aided those afflicted with Hansen’s disease. Molokai’s western shore features Papohaku Beach, one of the largest white sand beaches in Hawaii. The Big Wind Kite Factory, another popular island attraction, is located in the small town of Maunaloa in western Molokai.
