Maui Horseback Riding

At Mendes Ranch in West Maui, you will explore diverse landscapes, from rugged cliffs to lush forests, all on horseback!  Saddle up with Mendes Ranch paniolos (Hawaiian cowboys) and get the real experience of what traversing the island was like in the beginning.  On this tour you will clomp through rolling pastures, pause to gaze at some of Maui’s largest waterfalls, and saunter amongst old traditional plantation homes.  The guide will also take you to view Hawaiian kalo (taro) patches, where the culture’s ancient food staple grows out of flooded agriculture fields.  You will course through Waihe’e Valley, all the way down to the Pacific waters, where you’ll find some of Maui’s most picturesque photos are captured.

This family owned and operated business offers a warm, ohana (family) feeling for all visitors.  With 3,000 acres to explore, you’ll receive a history of the Mendes family and their origin to the island during this 2-hour ride.  The trail moves through the modern-day working ranch, where you’ll see family members spread amongst the countryside.  With 300 cattle heads to keep in track, the family workers are kept busy practicing their roping skills, attending rodeos, and doing daily maintenance on the ranch.

Tours begin at the Mendes Ranch corral, where you’ll also meet your paniolo guide and become friendly with your horse.  Short tutorials are given on how to ride and then it’s off on your trailing adventure!  The Mendes Ranch tour guides are all friendly with great visitor reviews.  They are happy to share their knowledge of the land and take you on an unforgettable excursion.  What better way to make memories on your vacation than to experience the natural splendor of the island on horseback!
