Touring Hawaii Wineries

Although Hawaii wineries may not come close to Napa Valley, they sure have made a name for themselves in an island-style kind of way.

t off, both wineries sit at the very top or near volcanoes. Tedeschi Vineyards calls Ulupalakua Ranch in upcountry Maui its home, while Volcano Winery can be found near Volcano Village on the Hawaii Island.

Secondly, their wines include the taste of Hawaii, such as honey macadamia nut and other tropical fruits. Both produce red wines, white winds, sparkling wines and fruit wines.

However, each have their own specialty wines. The Maui winery offers a sinfully decadent raspberry wine call Framboise, which can be enjoyed in a mixed cocktail or drizzled over your favorite dessert. Wine-o’s know Volcano Winery for its mac nut honey wine and Hawaiian guava-grape infused spirit.

Both wineries are opened to the public for tours and tastings. However, at Ulupalakua Ranch, visitors not only taste wine but also experience an important piece of Hawaii history. The tasting room is actually the former guest cottage of King Kalakaua, Hawaii’s “Merrie Monarch.” Volcano Winery also has its own wine club and offers information on pairing wines with foods.
