Open Studio Tours for several art galleries have been the rage for art enthusiasts on Kauai. For two weekends in October, the public gets a chance to see artists in action – working on the next masterpiece in their creative environments.

Women Artists of Kauai hosts the open tours, which take place at participating galleries from Lihue to Waimea and then Wailua to Wainiha. Visitors can choose to take the entire tour or just part of it.

Don’t know which tour to take? The Kauai Museum provides a small sampling of artwork from each artist. Look for the display on the wall and decide from there. Or you can look online beforehand by searching the following artists names: Rhonda Forsberg, Donia Lilly, Ibbie Alshamma, Dawn Lundquist, Carol Diane Bevis, Leslie Hagen, Suzy Staulz, Keani Andrade, Patrice Pendarvis, Debbie Barklow, Caylin Spear, Lannie Boesiger, Anna Skaradzinska, R. Eve Solomon, Kathleen Bryan, Angela Headley, Turner, and Taboiar.

I know a few artists living on Kauai and have had the privilege of seeing them hard at work in their studios. It is always so much more meaningful for me to see the creative process; also, being able to see how the artist thinks really makes things more interesting.

A lot of good things surrounding this event. During the tours, 20 percent of the sales goes to a scholarship fund for the Zonta Club of Hanalei. The foundation supports charitable and educational programs on Kauai.
