When in Hawaii, it’s likely you’ll meet a surfer, a hula dancer or even a fire dancer. But it’s not often you see these guys cruising around:Storm troopers (top) and jedi knights (bottom) hanging out; no biggie.
The Ward Entertainment Center on Oahu is home to the consolidated theatre complex, Dave & Buster’s and several other shops and eateries. It’s across the street from Ward Warehouse. This weekend, the 3D premiere of Star Wars: Episode 1 brought an army of storm troopers and jedi knights, complete with light sabers and laser cannons. They greeted moviegoers in the theatre lounge and took pictures with giddy fans of the force.
It’s pretty much the norm to see some of your favorite on-screen characters here. For the past decade, Hogwarts wizards have been mingling with muggles while just recently vampires and werewolves attended the much anticipated wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cullen. They come here for the 16-screen megaplex, comfy stadium seating, extra-wide leg room and for those 3D shows, the largest movie screen in Honolulu. Some of Hawaii’s nightlife happens right here at Ward – movies, food and games.
You can’t miss the entertainment center’s big white top tents, where you’ll find the circus of movie maniacs and customers hungry for good food and unbeatable sales meandering about. It’s the most recent addition to the four-block Ward neighborhood and just steps away from Ala Moana Beach Park.
In fact, it’s quite possible that in one day, you’ll be able to soak in some rays, watch a matinee, then try your luck in a virtual NASCAR race or at the faux slot machines at Dave & Buster’s. Of course, you’ll want food after all the excitement. Within the entertainment center, you’ll find plates full of spaghetti and meatballs from Buca di Beppo or local dishes from Big City Diner. Basically, you’ll find something here to satisfy anyone’s appetite for food and fun.
