The Hawaii Vacation Blog welcomes a new editor! Born and raised in the islands, Alyssa Navares brings a local voice to our daily stories about Hawaii. But the focus of the blog remains the same: to share a love of Hawaii with visitors and those who hope to visit… some day.
Alyssa comes aboard as I make a slight change in course. I will continue to write weekly blog posts but now need to focus primarily on my academic pursuits. I moved to Hawaii to pursue a PhD in philosophy. Over the past several years, I’ve shared with you the things I have learned about Hawaii but I’ve spared you (for the most part) from the more arcane academic lessons. Now it is time to write a dissertation and it has claimed more of my attention and most of my energy.
We are fortunate to have found someone with Alyssa’s professional journalism background and enthusiasm for our project here at the Hawaii Vacation Blog. Alyssa has a journalism degree from the University of Hawaii and experience with local print and broadcast news outlets. She will continue to ensure that the stories we tell are clear, accurate and entertaining. Her experience with video production will also enhance that aspect of the blog, which we’ve only recently begun to explore. Alyssa has already contributed several blog posts and takes over as editor on October 1 (follow her on Twitter @Uamalie87).
As I transition from editor to contributor, I would like to thank Bruce and Yaling Fisher for their constant support as publishers and for the freedom to develop the blog into what I believe is a trusted source of information about Hawaii for visitors. I am proud of the writers and have enjoyed seeing the islands through their eyes. I look forward to the stories yet to be told — theirs, mine, and perhaps yours.
