There’s something about Hawaiian music on an Aloha Friday that instantly relaxes me. It’s like a pat on the back after a long week; a pleasant reminder that the weekend is about to start.

If you’re looking to unwind with some live Hawaiian music while in Hawaii, there are several places to do that. Here’s a quick list I’ve gathered of places around Oahu that offers live music throughout the week.

Duke’s Waikiki

• 2335 Kalakaua Ave., Honolulu, HI 96815 • www.dukeswaikiki.com

Every Friday, Maunalua infuses traditional and contemporary song. On Sundays, Henry Kapono plays with a beautiful beach backdrop.

Kani Ka Pila Grille

• 2169 Kalia Rd., Honolulu, HI 96815 • www.outrigger.com

In Hawaiian, kanikapila means to make music. That’s exactly what this restaurant does, with talent like Weldon Kekauoha (plays Tuesdays) and Cyril Pahinui (Wednesdays) gracing the stage.

Hilton Hawaiian Village

• 2005 Kalia Rd., Honolulu, HI 96815 • www.hiltonhawaiianvillage.com

There are several venues on the Hilton property to hear live music. On Thursdays, Nohelani Cypriano plays, while Saturdays, you can hear Henry Kapono at Tropics Bar & Grill. He also plays at the Tapa Bar on Fridays.

The Mai Tai Bar

• 2259 Kalakaua Ave., Honolulu, HI 96815 • www.royal-hawaiian.com

Not to be confused with Mai Tai’s at Ala Moana Shopping Center; this bar is located at the Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki. Kapala Duo, Delima Ohana and many others perform here daily, starting at 6 p.m.

Surfer, The Bar

• 57-091 Kamehameha Hwy., Kahuku, HI 96731 • www.turtlebaysurf.com

For live music on Oahu’s North Shore, Turtle Bay Resort has local talent swing by every Monday. While it may not necessarily be traditional Hawaiian music, singers like Jack Johnson, Anuhea and Paula Fuga have made appearances here for a younger, more contemporary crowd.
