The Show Aloha Challange has announced that the program has reached the $500,000 mark in its fundraising goals.

Show Aloha is a community-based program built from the ground up to help feed Hawaii’s seniors, or kupuna, at a time when they are most vulnerable to food insecurity during the global COVID-19 pandemic. The program was established just weeks ago in March, and an outpouring of support from a host locally-owned restaurants, businesses, and volunteers full of aloha has seen Show Aloha reach a remarkable fundraising milestone.

Created by Lanai Tabura and a small group of prominent local businesspersons, Show Aloha is helping provide 50,000 meals to homebound seniors across the Aloha State who are not eligible for government-subsidized meal delivery programs like Meals on Wheels and Lanakila Pacific.

In addition to providing vital nutrition to a vulnerable kupuna population in Hawaii, Show Aloha is also helping local restaurants survive closures and shuttered doors. 18 Hawaii restaurants are involved in the effort, including Koa Pancake House, Yanagi Sushi, and Young’s Fish Market.

Hawaii Meals on Wheels volunteers are involved in the effort, along with Saint Francis Healthcare Systems and Elite Transportation. Show Aloha is also engaging other organizations to join the work already underway to take care of (or malama) Hawaii’s kupuna.
The Show Aloha Challenge is truly the embodiment of the Aloha Spirit in Hawaii. It is an example of the generosity of spirit and a tangible sense of community that makes Hawaii unique in all the world. The Hawaii Aloha Travel ohana is proud to have our beloved (and Emmy Award-winning) podcast cohost Lanai Tabura as part of our family.
