Whether you’re on the left or right side of the political spectrum, it’s always big news when President Barack Obama is vacationing in Hawaii. Well, at least the media makes us think so! They document the first family’s every move – from what they’re eating to where they’re headed.
And through all the coverage, the Obamas sure do look like they’re having a good time! If you want to have a Hawaii vacation like the Obamas, then here’s how to do it:
1- Go golfing, hiking, work out.
Obama’s Hawaii itinerary proves that there are ways to stay in shape even during a vacay. He has been spotted hitting balls at the oceanfront golf course in Kaneohe and even hiking the Maunawilli Falls trail in Kailua. Obama is such the fitness fiend that he heads to the gym every morning.
2- Cool off with some bodysurfing.
We’ve almost all seen pictures and video of the prez sliding like a seal through the shoreline at Sandy Beach. It’s one of the most dangerous beach breaks in the world, but Obama’s upbringing in the islands makes him look like a champ. The president bodysurfs wave after wave in flawless form.
3- Eat shave ice.
Snowbama, anyone? A popular Kailua shave ice shop named the flavor after Obama, who has become a frequent customer during the President’s trips. Obama has even been spotted sporting the Island Snow t-shirt around town. One report says his favorite flavors are: “choo-choo cherry,” “da kine lemon-lime” and “tangy guava-orange.” I’m sure you really wanted to know that!
4- Refuel at Zippy’s.
Zippy’s is like the In-N-Out Burger of Hawaii. Everyone obsesses over the local favorites found at this local diner chain, like saimin, chili and friend chicken. Not the healthiest option for food in the islands, but hey, Obama makes his “next stop, Zippy’s,” as the commercial suggests…so you should, too! Or at least you should support local businesses.
5- Then go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay.
As one of the most popular snorkeling destinations in Hawaii, Hanauma Bay is home to 400 types of fish and marine life. The bay is right around the corner from Sandy Beach and Sea Life Park, where Obama and his family have also visited during vacay.
