There’s nothing like Springtime in Hawaii! We may not have a true “winter,” but we do have the rainy season. And, Spring is when the rain starts to subside and the sunshine prevails.
If you’re lucky enough to visit Hawaii this Spring, you’ll soon find out that we’re just as excited for Spring as the rest of the country (and northern hemisphere in this case). So, you’ll find lots of folks out-and-about here on Oahu, enjoying the weather and welcoming in the dry season.
Here’s a look at our top 10 Spring events on Oahu, courtesy of the Honolulu Star Advertiser:
1. Children’s music concert: This is a chance to experience the music of Hawaii in a setting that’s as close to perfect as you can imagine! 11 to 11:45 a.m. April 4, Kailua Elks Club, 48 Maluniu Ave.; doors open 10:30 a.m. Keiki under age 5 will enjoy singing, clapping and dancing along to songs and musical favorites with the Kailua Elks Club Band.
2. “Home”: Theatre in Hawaii is no-joke! Bring your kids and enjoy half-hour performances of Honolulu Theatre for Youth production about two charming characters who learn about the importance of having and sharing a home. At the following public libraries: 10:30 a.m. April 8 at McCully-Moiliili (973-1099); 10:30 a.m. April 15 at Hawaii State Library (586-3500); and 2:30 p.m. April 18 at Salt Lake-Moanalua (831-6831).
3. Easter Egg-stravaganza: Keep the kids busy with Easter fun! 4 to 7 p.m. April 13, Windward Mall, Center Court, with crafts, games, prizes, egg dyeing, informational booths on the city’s summer programs and more. Presented by Honolulu Department of Parks & Recreation.
4. Zac’s Rabbits!: Got an animal-lover on your hands? 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. April 15, Kapolei Public Library. Rabbit breeder Zachary Johnson explains how to care for rabbits and the various breeds.
5. A Hip-Hop-pening Easter Celebration: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 15, Salt Lake Shopping Center, 848 Ala Lilikoi St., with make-and-take crafts, games, prize giveaways, photos with the Easter bunny (professional photos available for a fee or bring your own camera), petting zoo and Salt Lake Pony Eggs-press; donate $1 or a canned good for the Hawaii FoodBank and receive a wristband for entry into the activities.
6. Bank of Hawaii Family Sunday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 16, Honolulu Museum of Art, 900 S. Beretania St. Features literature-inspired art activities, drawing contest, book swap (bring a gently used book to exchange), storytelling with Jeff Gere and Bess Press authors, and free showings of “The Little Prince” (2015, 1:48) at 11:10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Take the free shuttle bus to Spalding House in Makiki Heights for additional art activities.
7. Easter Brunch: April 16 at Waimea Valley, 59-864 Kamehameha Highway (across from Waimea Bay), with seatings at 10 a.m. and noon; Easter egg hunt at 11:30 a.m. Food will be catered by Ke Nui Kitchen. Cost (includes park admission): $42.95 for adults, $22.95 for ages 4 to 12.
8. Cookie decorating with The Cookie Corner: Noon to 2 p.m. April 15, Kahala Mall near Macy’s at the Easter photo garden.
9. Mauka to Makai Environmental Expo: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22, Waikiki Aquarium. Earth Day celebration with activity booths, entertainment, native plant giveaways, food vendors, a fish release and more. Free admission. Free parking and shuttle service from Jefferson Elementary School. If you’re staying in one of the many Hawaii hotels located in Waikiki, the Waikiki Aquarium could be just a short walk away.
