It seems that more and more in Hawaii, you’ll find a shop that sells both coffee and acai. Island Vintage Coffee does just that, appealing to a broader range of customers at both its Ala Moana and Waikīkī locations.
The good news is that you can expect both your coffee and your acai to be of top-notch quality and taste. I have been there many times and have yet to be disappointed. However, the menu can be a bit pricey; after all, both locations sit right nearby an ABC Store, which is known for its overpriced island souvenirs.
A medium coffee costs about $4.50, while an acai bowl with all the toppings goes for $8. The shop’s ground and bean bags of Kona coffee are also really expensive. For instance, a 7-ounce bag costs about $27, while 1 lb. of extra large beans goes for $47! The $215 price tag for 5 lbs. of “Extra Fancy” Kona coffee beans caught my eye once. What are they thinking! That’s ridiculously, over-the-top expensive! It’s not like the beans give you super powers.
Back to the regular cups of coffee, though, that normal people can afford. I highly recommend the Lava Mocha, a blend of dark chocolate and caramel. Otherwise, the drip coffee is also very tasty and not as sweet. I have yet to try their frozen coffees; maybe next time I will make that a priority, especially if it is a hot day.
Many say that the acai bowls (or more like acai cups because they come in large latte cups) are the best they’ve ever tried. I would definitely agree with that if it were not so expensive. They do pack on the toppings of fresh fruit, though, so it can be worth it every now and again.
