I just noticed that quite a few of my posts are about beer (and I don’t even drink the stuff!). But, I couldn’t resist writing about the second annual Great Waikiki Beer Festival in Hawaii because it’s not just a beer fest — it’s also a chance to help wounded veterans. And, I’m a sucker for a good cause!
I’m also a sucker for Kenny Loggins (I was a kid in the ’80’s). And, guess what? The Grammy-award winning singer is performing at the event, held on August 27 from 6-10 pm at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort on the Great Lawn fronting Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon.
Whether you go for the beer, the entertainment, or the good karma, here are some of the details for this year’s event:
- More than 100 featured seasonal, local, and craft beers will be available
- 30 wines will also be available.
- Additional entertainment provided by Shar Carillo, Simplisity, and HAPA
- The featured local microbreweries will include Honolulu Beerworks, Waikiki Brewing Co., Kona Brewing Co. and Maui Brewing Co. Beverages will be available from Mainland breweries including San Diego’s Iron Fist Brewery, Chicago’s Goose Island and Rogue out of Newport, Oregon.
- Food options will include kiawe-smoked brisket sandwiches on sweet bread buns and bratwurst on hoagie buns.
- A portion of the event’s proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Ohana, a local nonprofit group that cares for injured and disabled military service members and their families.
