Happy Hawaiian Christmas!

Waking up to Christmas in Hawaii can be a real treat for visitors because the weather outside is not “frightful,” as the classic song suggests, nor is it snowing. That means there’s plenty of reason to go outside and enjoy the day to its fullest!

After opening presents next to the tree and enjoying a warm cup of coffee, my family packs the car with surfboards and suits up for the beach. A tradition that has been a part of our family’s holiday festivities for as long as I can remember, when we spend most of the day with sand between our toes.

Although Hawaii does not get snow during the holidays, we do get waves. Pulling up to the beach with glassy conditions and light offshore winds is always an extra-special treat for us. We set up camp under the shade before quickly paddling out to the lineup as a family. Mom stays back to watch our stuff. When my siblings and I were younger, Bellows used to be our beach of choice; now it’s somewhere on the north shore.

No matter where you choose to spend Christmas Day in Hawaii – whether it be at the beach or at restaurant, make it a memorable one! Oftentimes, it doesn’t matter where you spend it but with whom. Take time out of your vacation to surround yourself with lots of love and laughter on this day (and everyday!)
