From GPS mapping to Pandora radio stations, technology can be so incredibly wonderful when traveling. Sometimes, I wonder how I ever survived back in the day – without all of my gadgets!
Over the years, my list of gadgets has definitely expanded. Each piece serves a specific purpose and can’t be compromised or left behind because, well, we all know just how frustrating it can be when a laptop or tablet runs out of battery power. It’s no fun lugging around hunks of metal (i.e. dead weight); therefore, it is essential to remember every cord, every charger, every THING in order to keep things running properly!
While every traveler’s list of techie stuff varies, mine usually consists of stuff I need for work and pleasure. Here’s my quiver: Kindle, iPad, Macbook Pro, iPhone, Canon 7D, GoPro, headphones and all the various accessories that go with each device (chargers, cords, card readers, lenses, lens cleaning equipment, etc.) Also, if you’re planning to rent a car, like we usually do, consider packing a phone charger and auxiliary cord so that you can connect your phone to the car and listen to your own music playlist.
The main thing is that you stay as organized as possible, so as not to lose or break anything. I found that having a designated bag, like a gallon-size ziplock, has been helpful in keeping cords and chargers from getting tangled. I never send them through my checked-in bag but rather leave them in my carry-on; not only because I don’t want to risk losing them but also because I don’t want anything to break.
