Are you going to be celebrating the Fourth of July in Hawaii this year? If so, keep reading, because I have rounded up a few of the fireworks and Fourth of July celebrations in Hawaii this year that you won’t want to miss.
Many family-friendly activities are happening throughout the islands. Geared towards all ages, they will attract locals and visitors alike. Not only are there many fireworks shows on different beaches, but there are also some festivals that will feature local music and food. Enjoy the Fourth of July, Hawaii-style!
Oahu
Ala Moana Center
One of the top fireworks shows in the country, Ala Moana Center’s Fourth of July fireworks display will launch from three separate platforms at Ala Moana Beach Park. Free to the public, the fireworks will begin on July 4 at 8:30 p.m. If you are watching, tune into FM 92.3 KSSK for live music that will accompany the show.
Ala Moana has some activities planned to celebrate all week long. Ala Moana Center will offer a 20% Savings Pass, valid July 1 – 4 at more than 60 stores. You can pick up this savings pass starting June 26 at Ala Moana Center’s Guest Services.
There will also be live entertainment at Ala Moana Center’s two main stages, Ewa Wing Stage and Centerstage, from July 1 – 4. For the schedule of events, click here.
Turtle Bay Resort
If you are going to be on Oahu’s north shore, head over to Turtle Bay Resort for food, fun, music, and fireworks on the West Lawn. This event is free and open to the public. Gates open at 2:00 p.m. with premium event parking available for $10 per car.
Two special events make this celebration stand out. Eat the Street, Hawaii’s favorite food truck rally, is returning to Turtle Bay Resort with over 30 delicious food vendors from 2:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. There will also be a Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival featuring 15 artists from 2:30 p.m. -8:30 p.m. The fireworks will take place at 8:00 p.m. For more information, click here.

Kailua
On Oahu’s windward side, Kailua Beach hosted a fireworks display each 4th of July for over 65 years. The event will take place at Kailua Beach Park. The festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m. with an Acrobatic Air Show with Skydive Hawaii Presenting Colonel John Bates and the Flying Leathernecks. This special event is new this year!
At 6:30 p.m., the Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band will perform. The fireworks show will take place at 8:00 p.m.
Free parking is available at Lanikai Elementary, Kainalu Elementary, Kailua Elementary, and Kailua Intermediate. There will be a free shuttle service from the Old Macy’s Parking Lot to Kailua Elementary, to Kailua Beach Center. Big Island
Hilo Bay
The “Hilo Bay Blast” is a much-loved tradition in Hilo and is open to the public. It is an alcohol-, drug- and litter-free event made possible by private enterprise, community organizations, and government.
This year’s Fourth of July Celebration will feature various activities throughout Tuesday, culminating with the traditional Fireworks Exhibition at 8:00 p.m. in Hilo Bay.
Beginning bright and early at 7:00 a.m., the “Salute to Our Veterans,” Hilo Bay 5K Run/Walk at Lili‘uokalani Gardens kicks off the celebrations. Children’s Activities will be available at the Mo‘oheau Ball Field.
Also, The cultural “BBQ Burger Cook-off,” coordinated by the All-Hawaii Veteran’s Group, will be located at the commuter parking lot on the makai side of Kamehameha Avenue.
Barbecued hamburgers and other food items will be offered for sale. The commuter parking lot will be home to other food vendors selling a variety of “onolicious” grinds for everyone to enjoy.
Across the street at the mauka soccer field, the “Hot Rides Expo” from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. will feature a display of hundreds of vintage, classic and futuristic cars. There will also be live entertainment throughout the day. For more information, click here.
Kona
The Annual Kailua-Kona Independence Day Parade will take place on July 4 at 6:00 p.m.
All are welcome. Along with musical entries and floats of all kinds, there will be multiple color guards and numerous members of the armed services as part of the parade.
Immediately following the parade, there will be a Grand Fireworks Extravaganza over Kailua Bay, starting at 8:00 p.m. For more information, click here.
Kauai
Lihue
The Kauai Hospice 28th Annual Concert in the Sky will feature fireworks, games, live music and delicious food. The best part about this event is that it’s all for a good cause. It’s the biggest firework event on Kauai and is held at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue. The cost is $15 for adults and $7 for children. Call 808-245-7277 for more information.
Barking Sands
“America’s Most West Freedom Fest” will take place at the military base at Barking Sands. Although it takes place at a military base, this event is free and open to the public.
Due to security requirements, attending adults must have a valid identification card with a photo with them (driver’s license/government-issued identification). Children under the age of 18 are not required to have identification when accompanied by an adult. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. Free parking is available on base, but note that all vehicles will be subject to search.
There will be live music entertainment by Sammy Johnson, a beer and wine garden, food vendors, local craft sellers, games, bounce houses, and more.

There will be no ATMs available at the event. Please note that no outside food or beverages, coolers, tents, pets, weapons (including knives of all types), drones, drugs or personal fireworks are allowed.

Lahaina
Lahaina is the place to be on Maui for Fourth of July celebrations. The town is expecting 20,000 people for the town’s block party. Throughout the town, many different events will take place. There will be live entertainment, food for sale, prizes, and even a magician. A grand fireworks display takes place at 8:00 p.m.
Launched from a barge located just offshore, this is one fireworks show you won’t want to miss. If you’re looking for the action, head straight to Front Street. A few restaurants – notably Fleetwoods on Front Street, Kimo’s, and Lahaina Fish – have oceanfront dining that will give you a perfect view to watch the show with a drink in hand.
Or, you could opt for a sunset cruise. Sunset cruises leave out of Lahaina and Maalaea Harbors and give you a front-row seat to the fireworks.
Of course, you can also watch the fireworks from the beach. They can be seen for miles, from beaches just south of Lahaina all the way to Kaanapali. For more information and the full schedule of events, click here.
