My Mom used to tell me, “some people eat to live — and others live to eat.” Well, I have to say I’m in the latter category, and proud of it! In fact, dining is such an important part of my vacation experience that I will eliminate a resort from consideration, should I determine it is lacking in that category.
What a relief it was, then, to experience the extraordinary dining on my recent visit to the Four Seasons Lanai. The dining and cuisine were as luxurious as the surroundings and accommodations, and I’m still dreaming of the Big Island lobster with crispy garlic, shellfish emulsion, and roasted corn I had for dinner. But, I digress…
What was especially nice about dining at the Four Seasons Lanai was the tie to local farmers. The resort supports more than 100 local farmers and fishers, including Alberta’s Farm on Lanai, and approximately 65 percent of the menu items come from the Hawaiian Islands. So, when you dine at the Four Seasons Lanai, you’re helping the local economy.
Here’s more information about your dining options at this first-class resort:
NOBU LANAI: Set cliff side overlooking a protected marine preserve, NOBU LANAI offers sweeping panoramic views and innovative Japanese cuisine. NOBU LĀNA‘I showcases signature new-style Japanese cuisine, as well as new creations infusing local ingredients. A recent redesign added a dedicated lounge, teppanyaki stations and sushi bar. In addition to enjoying dishes, such as Nobu style sashimi tacos, squid pasta with light garlic sauce, and black cod miso with butter lettuce, diners can gaze upon the sand and waters of Hulopoe Bay, often referred to as one of Hawaii’s most beautiful beaches.
ONE FORTY: Inspired by the island’s 140 square mile radius (not to mention that a medium steak is grilled to perfection at 140 degrees), ONE FORTY is Four Seasons Resort Lanai’s main dining room. This ocean-view restaurant offers breakfast and an extensive American steak and Hawaiian seafood dinner menu. With an emphasis on local ingredients, ONE FORTY showcases prime and wagyu beef from Snake River Farms, and local Hawaiian catch, prepared to perfection. But, save room for dessert — you haven’t lived until you’ve seen (and eaten) the faux “coconut.”
Malibu Farm: Los Angeles’ Malibu Farm, a favorite of local residents, surfers and A-list celebrities alike, features the freshest local and organic ingredients for delicious lunch offerings. Sample items include Chop salad and Soy-marinated steak sandwiches. Later, relax with refreshing island cocktails and pupusas the sun sets on another glorious day.
The Sports Bar & Grill: This open-air bar offers a lively social atmosphere to gather, mingle and dine. Guests can enjoy a game of pool or a variety of table and pub games, simply relax and watch their favorite sports program on the 90-inch LCD television while toasting the sunset. A sampling of dishes includes Lanai Venison Pizza, Hot Wings, and Shrimp Lettuce Wraps. Our party started with the cheese sampler tray, which featured a trio of beautiful cheeses, with compotes, honey, and figs — yum!
Visitors can also frequent the lobby lounge for cocktails or Kope for a quick breakfast.
I’ve officially been spoiled after eating at some of the Four Seasons Lanai signature restaurants. But, frankly, I don’t care. As someone whose main vacation focus is always the cuisine, I’m open to being spoiled anytime!
