Hawaii’s fashion scene goes beyond board shorts and bikinis. Just check out any one of the community events promoting small businesses and, of course, fashion!

Monthly events, like the Honolulu Night Market and Art and Flea, dress up the community with locally-made attire. In fact, a majority of the merchandise sold at these events are handmade and one-of-a-kind pieces. Can’t go wrong with that, especially with how competitive the fashion world can be for both the guys and the gals.

There’s an array of merchandise available for sale, including hats, bags, scarves and jackets. But they’re not the kind of stuff you find at department stores. Each item has a unique touch to them that adds to the island’s fashion scene. They’re styles that have traveled overseas to get to Hawaii, or – better yet – came from these very island shores.

I never said there wouldn’t be bikinis and board shorts, though! Those happen to be a few of the top-selling items at these monthly events. Swarms of girls and guys dig through the beach attire in search for the best prints and – most of all – the best deals. Trust me, the deals are worth searching.

The Honolulu Night Market hosts fashion shows as well. There’s a stage set up outside of the warehouse marketplace for everyone to see. I wouldn’t say the shows are New York runway caliber but definitely quality ones worth watching.
