It’s no surprise to Hawaii that out of all 6,000 bakeries across the nation, Liliha Bakery ranked among the top 15.

The Daily Meal, an online site for foodies, reviewed about 1,400 bakeries over the past year and came up with a list of “America’s 50 Best Bakeries.” LIliha made the cut, described on the site as a bakery best known for its coco puffs. Duh!

If you haven’t tried Liliha’s coco puffs, then please make sure to do so on your next trip to Hawaii. I promise you won’t regret it; even my mom, who rarely eats sweets, raves about Liliha’s coco puffs. I’d say it’s got a little bit of something for everyone – a chocolate-filled puffed pastry with a dollop of creamy chantilly.

These sinful treats have become so popular that the bakery says it sells between 4,800 to 7,000 every day. That’s a remarkable number for any bakery to pump out – let alone, a small one like Liliha. This mom-and-pop has no doubt grown into what I think could be a chain of bakeries in the near future.

The site calls Liliha Bakery a “local favorite” and a place that visitors should check out when going to Oahu. Luckily, there will soon be a second island location to do just that!

  1. I was a native of Hawaii for 32 years. I I lived about two blocks away from Liliha Bakery. They make great hot butter rolls. Our gang patronized this establishment a lot when they were at the old location on Liliha St. makai of Kuakini St.
