Known as the Picasso of 3-D pumpkin sculpting, Ray Villafane takes a fun, Halloween pastime to a whole ‘nother level with his jaw-dropping designs. Forget about those triangle-eyed jack-o-lanterns we were so proud of as kids. Ray uses different shapes and tools for an overly-impressive outcome.

The master pumpkin carver plans to share his talents at Windward Mall’s annual Pumpkin Carving Festival. Every year, hundreds of revelers challenge themselves to the art of pumpkin sculpting. Ray’s presence is meant to inspire families who show up to the event.

Ray is so good that he won the Food Network’s challenge show, Outrageous Pumpkins, two years in a row! He carves about 100 pumpkins a year, each taking about five hours to complete and requiring some sculpting, sanding and waxing. Hawaii is not the only place he has traveled to for his talent; he has also been to Germany, Switzerland and Hong Kong.

The Pumpkin Carving Festival began in 2010 with the purpose of starting a new tradition for families. It kicks off the holiday season and provides a festive atmosphere for those looking to get into the spirit! Proceeds of the fest will benefit Keiki O Ka Aina Family Learning Centers and USO Hawaii.
