To kick off the holiday shopping season, a local boutique has partnered with several entrepreneurs for a first-ever Aloha Co-Op. Cottage by the Sea opened up a spacious room in the back of its shop for some handmade trinkets and treasures – from intricate shell jewelry to chic aloha print clutches.
Perusing through all the amazing finds inspires me to bust out that old sewing machine again. Textures, patterns and prints bring back college-day memories when sewing was a hobby of mine. But seeing as that won’t be happening any time soon (NO time), I will just have to resort to busting out the plastic instead!
About 17 designers and businesses from around the islands and on the mainland had something unique for sale. I had been tempted once again to buy those cute printed fabric clutches made by a Honolulu designer. The first time had been at the Made In Hawaii Festival. Jana Lam’s stuff is so cute.
With how popular shell jewelry has become, it was no surprise to find an assortment of them at the co-op. I bought a pair of shell earrings from Simply Sparkle Designs as a gift for a friend. It featured coral, gemstones and charms onto the signature asymmetrical piece.
It’s always nice to put a face to the name, so starting November 1, the boutique will host weekly trunk shows where customers can meet the designers.
