Ala Moana Market Finds A New Home

Here’s an update on the Ala Moana Farmers Market:

Starting Oct. 5, 2013, it will be permanently moved to Ward Warehouse and be called the FarmLovers Kakaako Farmers Market. It will run from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday.

I’m a little weary about parking in that area, as customers will have to park at limited spaces on Auahi Street. Otherwise, I’m sure most people will park in the Ward lots and just walk from there. Technically, they are patrons of Ward.

There will be a grand opening on Oct. 5 and include free giveaways, activities and a 70-seat cafe with local entertainment. The market will still offer a perse selection of local produce and foods – plus, a few new vendors! It may be cool to get a to-go lunch at the market and walk over to Ala Moana Beach Park right across the street.

When I first heard about the move from Ala Moana Shopping Center, my first guess had been because of the massive construction going on in that area. Turns out, I guessed right, according to a “Pacific Business News” article. The owners of the FarmLovers co-op had already planned to move to Kakaako, so the timing seemed right.

There is plenty to do in the Kakaako area, so be sure to check out the market, if you’re in the area on Saturdays.
