Hawaii Swimmer Loses Camera

Please help this girl find her camera.

Leahi Camacho became the youngest person to swim from Molokai to Oahu, but before she can fully celebrate her achievement, the 17-year-old hopes to find the camera that captured her glory moments.

It was apparently lost to the infamous Sandy Beach shorebreak, which is known for its h3 rip currents. The currents not only suck swimmers out to sea but their belongings as well. I’ve lost a pair of sunglasses there and know people who had their swim fins sucked right off their feet.

The Kealakehe High School senior swam the Kaiwi Channel, a gnarly 26-mile route. It took her about 15 hours to finish, and as quoted in a KHON2 News report, she got nailed with some portuguese man o’ war midway through the swim but kept going.

I can’t imagine how bummed she and her family must be to have lost those precious memories. I’m hoping that wasn’t the only camera with footage on it, but if it is, hopefully it washes up to shore sometime soon. This is similar to a Georgia tourist who lost her camera while in vacation in Hawaii. The camera ended up in Taiwan!
