If you’ve been following the Facebook and Twitter action on the Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race, you might know a little bit about our protagonists. Lanai Tabura, Adam Tabura and Shawn Felipe have banned together to create an amazing trio of local Hawaii style personalities for the show, scheduled to air on the Food Network in late August. And sounds like they’ve been doing an amazing job with the challenges thrown at them so far! But just who exactly are these guys?
Lanai Tabura is a comedian based out of Honolulu, and was born and raised on the pineapple island of Lanai. Entrepreneur, owner and operator of a full service travel agency, not to mention a comedian, morning radio host, actor and frequent traveler, Lanai has a handful of hobbies and interests that make him one-of-a-kind. He is one of Hawaii’s most loved entertainers and while he is quite the radio/television personality, his brother Adam Tabura is a world-class chef on Maui – adding the culinary spice to this food truck.
Also from the small island of Lanai, Adam has quite an extensive culinary background. Manele Bay Hotel and the Lodge at Koele from 1997 to 2003 (among other top hotels), Executive Chef of Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Wailea, Chef at Pulehu Italian Grill in Kaanapali, Executive Sous Chef at The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas, plus more are just a few of the positions he has under his belt. So this food truck thing should be easy, right? So far things are looking good, and based on what we’ve seen and heard through Twitter and Facebook, Chef Tabura’s creations are a huge hit!
The third member of the food truck trio is multi-ethnic stand up comedian Shawn Felipe. Born in California and raised in Honolulu, Shawn not only has an appreciation for perse culinary flavors, but also a personality that draws people in like a magnet. Based on popular demand, Shawn’s live stand-up comedic acts continue to filtrate around the globe from the US to Singapore, Canada, Japan, and the Middle East, as well as colleges and universities nationwide.
Who better than these three guys to create a unique blend of character for the Food Networks’ The Great Food Truck Race? Humor, culinary talent, and a knack for spreading aloha, Lanai, Adam and Shawn are spreading Hawaii vibes one plate at a time!
If you check them out on Facebook (Aloha Plate Truck Page) you’ll find photos of their journey, including exclusive images of inside the truck, the food lines, and all the supporters who’ve come out to show their aloha. You’d be surprised to know how many Hawaii affiliates are in the route stop-offs so far!
