Presidents Day in Hawaii is when thousands of sneakers trot through Honolulu for the annual Great Aloha Run. It’s barbecues on the beach and picnics in the shade. And for Hawaii’s homegrown president, it’s a day of well-deserved downtime.
While Barack Obama doesn’t make it over to the islands for a second time (like he does for Christmas), he spends the long holiday weekend at another ocean-bound area. Obama’s been hanging with friends in West Palm Beach, Florida this weekend. Last year, he skied his way through the holiday with his family on the Aspen slopes.
So far, his vacation hasn’t gotten interrupted by work, like his Hawaiian vacation did this Christmas. But then again, he’s president 24/7, so vacay or not, Obama’s always on the clock. His pre-holiday schedule, however, included awarding citizen medals, meeting the president of Italy and giving a speech on economics in Chicago.
Like Hawaii, Florida is big on golf. Obama’s weekend with the guys has been packed with golf at a private resort. He even got a lesson from the same professional instructor who taught Tiger Woods years ago.
Meanwhile, his wife and daughters are enjoying their annual ski trip out West. Many eyebrows have been raised at the thought of the president skipping the White House without his family. But even the president deserves some “me time” – whether it be going to the gym or going for a round of golf. This holiday weekend’s for you!
