The Hawaii Vacation Blog welcomes a new editor! Born and raised in the islands, Alyssa Navares brings a local voice to our daily stories about Hawaii. But the focus of the blog remains the same: to share a love of Hawaii with visitors and those who hope to visit… some day.

Alyssa comes aboard as I make a slight change in course. I will continue to write weekly blog posts but now need to focus primarily on my academic pursuits. I moved to Hawaii to pursue a PhD in philosophy. Over the past several years, I’ve shared with you the things I have learned about Hawaii but I’ve spared you (for the most part) from the more arcane academic lessons. Now it is time to write a dissertation and it has claimed more of my attention and most of my energy.

We are fortunate to have found someone with Alyssa’s professional journalism background and enthusiasm for our project here at the Hawaii Vacation Blog. Alyssa has a journalism degree from the University of Hawaii and experience with local print and broadcast news outlets. She will continue to ensure that the stories we tell are clear, accurate and entertaining. Her experience with video production will also enhance that aspect of the blog, which we’ve only recently begun to explore. Alyssa has already contributed several blog posts and takes over as editor on October 1 (follow her on Twitter @Uamalie87).

As I transition from editor to contributor, I would like to thank Bruce and Yaling Fisher for their constant support as publishers and for the freedom to develop the blog into what I believe is a trusted source of information about Hawaii for visitors. I am proud of the writers and have enjoyed seeing the islands through their eyes. I look forward to the stories yet to be told — theirs, mine, and perhaps yours.

  1. Aloha from Kauai Alyssa. I look forward to learning about your vision and continuing to write about Kauai for HAT. Welcome aboard!

  2. Mahalo, All for your warm welcoming! It's exciting to be a part of something as alive and full of the Aloha Spirit as HAT. I look forward to hearing your stories and to meeting you soon! @Cindy, I have big shoes to fill (: You've really helped the blog to develop a sense of place in our community, and I hope to continue that from here forward. I mua!

  3. Marta, I really do enjoy your Kaua'i posts. My boyfriend is originally from there; still has family there. And every time we visit, I just fall more in love with the island! I am looking forward to more stories from you (:

  4. All I can say is WOW, so excited and honored to have you on our team Alyssa.

Cindy you're really our angel, you've done so much to make our blog unique and special & we're greatful to still have your voice contributing. Mahalo nui from all of us here at HAT for all you've done.

  5. Mahalo Cindy for all of your great blogs you have provided for us.  And welcome Alyssa, I'm excited to see what you have to bring!

  6. Editing the blog has been a pleasure and I'm so very happy to have Alyssa take it forward. I'll also enjoy taking a break from "serious" writing to share my "OMG LOOK AT THAT" moments here on the Hawaii Vacation Blog. After three years, Hawaii still amazes me every day.
