Ala Moana Center is the place to be for “seven *blissful* days of shopping euphoria.”
For the past four years AMC has hosted a weeklong event dedicated to just shopping! And since this is what this particular blog is all about, you can believe I’ll be there. Last night I attended the media kickoff celebration “Posh Pau Hana” to get the word out for promoting the bargains, entertainment and specials. There is a lot going on in just 7 days during the event. With a DJ mixing current music in the background, the guests were treated to some tasty selections from the menu of Romano’s Macaroni Grill. The setting was a elegant but casual tented area in the Nordstrom end of the mall, sporting bright spring colors to mark the change of season, something I have to be reminded of since, to me, Hawaii seems seasonless and gorgeous year round.
bright colors, music and music – perfect for a party.
As the March winds gusted all about, a selection of merchants showed off racks of their newest spring arrivals. It was nice that each store had sales personnel on hand to pull out items for you and explain how to wear or accessorize it. I have to say that browsing these racks accomplished the intent – which was to leave me wanting to see more and maybe go try on a few items that caught my eye. And almost every store in the center has some sort of in-store offer this week to take something off the bill’s bottom line. I also learned that these stores have stylists on hand to help find the fit and look for you. I talked at length to one stylist from Ann Taylor who is an expert with color and personal styling. Maybe some of you remember the book ‘Color Me Beautiful’ (if you are a woman of a ‘certain age’). This type of service is still available I was happy to learn, considering help with image and looks at any age is a good thing.
It’s our own Yaling modeling lambskin jacket (she loved it), plus keiki shirt, jewelry and fashion.
As I left the event and passed by CenterStage, one of several scheduled fashion shows was going on, with a crowd of hundreds watching. Entertainment is scheduled every day this week in the center of the mall and in some stores. Coming up is a fashion show featuring designs by Project Runway star Andy South and a concert by Makana, one of my favorite music artists on the island. The kids are even included in the lineup with a Lego Build Event. And climaxing the week will be lucky winner for a Los Angeles getaway for two. Next March they will be doing this again, so if visiting the island, stop by and see what is going on. I’m sure it’ll be exciting, whatever it may be.
