Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s Northshore is an excellent alternative
to the crowded sidewalks and beaches of Waikiki.

I live on Oahu and rather than hopping on a plane for a serious weekend of rest and relaxation,
It’s easier, more affordable and takes a mere 40 minutes of driving time to escape to Turtle Bay. I was here with my girlfriends recently and we really enjoyed ourselves.
We had a gorgeous oceanfront room with spectacular views of the beach, mountains and pool.

While on a beach walk, we watched a turtle slowly creep out of the ocean onto shore until he
was comfortable on the sand. There he rested. Horseback riders trotted past us, as this is one of the many popular hotel activites offered.

We swam for hours in the larger pool. There are two swimming pools (one with a fun water slide), and a kiddie pool.

Also two jacuzzi spas are available, and a pool bar with a nice selection of sandwiches. We opted for the Portabello burger and the Ahi
Sandwich, which we shared and enjoyed. I’ll share a secret…if you want to indulge in the jacuzzi, go to the oceanside hot tub.
It isn’t on the pool deck and is sort of hidden, which we enjoyed because we had it to ourselves each time. When we got back to our room, we looked through binoculars for our turtle friend.. he was still there basking in the sun.

The prices at Turtle Bay are quite comparable to that of a beachfront hotel on Waikiki Beach. You can get a taxi if you don’t want to drive, but I recommend getting a rental car. There is so much to see and do. On Saturday morning visit the farmers market at Sunset Elementary school, or see the famous Northshore surfing beaches such as Sunset beach, Pipeline, Waimea Bay, or visit the Polynesian Cultural center and don’t forget about Dole Pineapple Plantation. I recommend this resort to couples and families alike. Giving it a big thumbs up!

  1. I was one of the fortunate “girlfriends” who went with Kalei to Turtle Bay this past weekend. Since I’m usually on a tight budget, this was ideal for me. It was as if I had left civilization behind and was now in a beautiful, peaceful, relaxing world. I love the small town feel of Haleiwa. This was truly what the Dr. ordered- thanks Kalei!

  2. I absolutely LOVE the North Shore, and Turtle Bay is one of my favorite resorts in Hawaii. A little in need of a renovation, but the location is magical

  3. Can’t get enough of the Windward side. By chance did you see a couple of guys doing a photo shoot down at Kawela’s?? My boyfriend them were doing it for an upcoming audition.

I agree Turtle Bay can be a great out of Waikiki spot. There are shops within driving and PCC is a great time. I personally love living on this side.

  4. Nothing refuels my soul like a weekend trip to the North Shore! Shave Ice at Matsumoto’s in Haleiwa, Ahi Burger at Ted’s Bakery, some surf and swim at Log Cabins, and a sunset to cap off the evening. Good Times

  5. I couldn’t agree with you more Kalei! Turtle Bay and the North Shore are just so naturally beautiful, peaceful, and has such a laid back feel. Also, every room there has such an amazing ocean view! I love the oceanfront dining at Ola’s – delicious food and great atmosphere.

  6. In these hot summer days both Aoki’s and Matsumoto’s shave ice stands had longer lines than I have seen in a long time. Business is good! We opted for an ice cold margarita at Cholo’s, which totally was what we needed.

  7. I recently stayed at the Turtle Bay Resort for my birthday and we had a fabulous weekend! Fine accommodations, good food, lots of relaxation and enjoyed the horseback riding on the beach!
