ALL ABOARD!!!!!!! [Train Whistle and Bells Sound while the engine releases steam and gets ready to depart]
Aloha folks, Just wanted to tell you about Hawaii’s only remaining steam train here on Maui. The Lahaina Ka’anapali and Pacific Railroad was founded back in the year 1880 and has been operating since that time. It was nick-named the Sugar Cane Train because it belonged to the Pioneer Sugar Mill in the late 1800s. The Sugar Cane Train was made popular by the pioneers and the management of Pioneer Sugar Mill in West Maui. The LK&P Has a total of three active engines Anaka (Green/Red Engine. Primary Engine for the LK&P) Backups Include a Diesel Engine and another Steam Engine Myrtle. The cars have various Hawaiian Names on them.
Today, the Lahaina Ka’anapali and Pacific Railroad is a huge tourist and train enthusiast magnet. Even the locals here enjoy a ride on it every now and then. I must admit when I first board the train I get a mad rush of history. After all I am riding on Hawaii’s only remaining Steam Train in the State. I enjoy the ride a lot cause it is an educational experience too. The Conductor thoroughly goes through the history of the rail road, Gets you up to date with Hawaiian History, and he/she even sings Hawaiian Songs during the ride. Drinks (Non alcoholic) and snacks are available on the route. Choose from your favourite Coca Cola product, Water, and they even sell Whole coconuts that you can have during the trip. You can drink the coconut juice and it is ever so tasty. After you get back to your hotel/condo/motel here on Maui, ask the maintenance crew for a hammer or have them crack open the coconut to enjoy the refreshing meat from the shell.
The Sugar Cane Train operates four times daily from three stations: Puukolii, Kaanapali and Lahaina. The cost for adults is $22.50 round trip. Children (3-12) cost $15.50. Children under 3 are feee. Monthly passes are available.
Thursday Nights you can even have a Ride on the Dinner Train:
Every Thursday evening guests are treated to a unique railroad experience. Departing from Puukolii Station, our friendly conductor welcomes everyone with a hearty “All Aboard.” Once the whistle blows from our vintage steam engine the dinner train adventure begins.
A local-style buffet prepared by Island Catering showcases such items as fresh Kula green salad, fried rice, and sauteed ono. Additionally, every week our Chef chooses a special entree to share with our Dinner Train guests.
An authentic hula show thoroughly entertains guests as they enjoy the local-style feast. Members of the Na Pua O Kapiolani Hula Studio feature dancers of all ages.

Over all riding on the train is great fun for the kids and adults a like. Dinner Train for Thursday Night is awesome as well. You can book with your hotel/condo/motel concierge. I fully recommend this train ride while your here on Maui.
