Hawaii Vacation Blog was founded April 14, 2006 by Bruce Fisher. Jim Winpenny was the lead blogger for several years before his death in May, 2009. His posts are collected in the Hawaii Vacation Playbook and on the blog site as the Jim Winpenny Archive category. Cindy Scheopner began writing for the blog in July, 2009 and was named its first editor a year later. On October 1, 2011 Alyssa S. Navares succeeded her as editor.

The Hawaii Aloha Travel website, which began in 1996, gets over 41,000 unique visitors a month. All of the traffic to the website is generated organically from keyword searches.
