OBama Hawaiian Food News
The inauguration of Barack Obama has created a whole bunch of new phenomena as this year gets under way.
Take the food industry.
Food sections in newspapers all over the country are turning out recipes for the food the president grew up with here in Hawaii: Spam musubi, loco moco, chicken katsu curry and hurricane popcorn, for example. Don’t laugh. You may well see one of those recipes and decide to try it yourself. They’re all really good. They aren’t traditional Hawaiian food recipes; they’re local-style fusion — things kids like and have stayed with as they’ve grown up.
Imagine the possibilities to come. The president was raised in Hawaii and Indonesia, schooled in Los Angeles, New York City and Cambridge, Massachusetts., lived in Chicago, has ties to Kansas and Kenya, and now lives in the nation’s capitol.
Keep your eyes on the food sections of your local paper.
