Hawaii Aloha Fans

These folks used the information we share on our shows to help plan their trip to Hawaii and the things they wanted to do then they got here.  We talk about how they discovered Hawaii Aloha Travel and what they are doing now that they’re in Paradise.
It’s always greet to meet folks who travel here and see their reaction to being in Hawaii. As with many of the people we’ve met, they just don’t want to leave.

Best Beaches for young swimmers
Today we got a question from Cory a Facebook friend who want to know where the best beaches are for young swimmers Oahu. We recommended Ala Moana Beach Park and Waikiki Beach. Both of these locations have protection from large waves so it’s ideal for children or those who have a fear of water.

Hawaii Vacation Rental Risks

Hawaii Vacation Connection E473

Hawaii Vacation Rentals
Today we talk about why we only offer Hawaii condos that are handled by management companies and wholesalers . There are over 2500 condo rentals on Oahu alone that are not licensed so it makes it impossible for us to recommend them. While we’re sure there are some great Hawaii vacation rentals out there we just can’t offer them for leagal reasons. We’re hopeful a new law that is making it’ way through the city council will help the situation.

Best Romantic restaurant on Oahu
Are you coming to Oahu for a special occasion and looking for the perfect place for a romantic dinner? That’s a question Carolyn had which we address on today show. We offer our top picks for the most romantic restaurant. Located on the diamond head side of Waikiki next to the aqua lotus, you’ll find Michel’s at The Colony Surf. It’s truly elegant dining, French cuisine and one of the few places you can enjoy a beachfront dinner.

Oahu’s best waterfall hike
Katie a facebook friend wants to know where the best waterfall hike is on Oahu. Today we share with her our favorite spot; Munawili Falls. This is an easy accessible hiking destination which is only about 30 minutes from Waikiki. It’s a 1 1/2 mile hike which takes you through rain forests, streams and a spectacular waterfall all in a shaded Valley. Parts of this type can be challenging so make sure you know all the rules before you embark on this adventure. For more information click here.

Punaluu Black Sand Beach

Hawaii Vacation Connection E 472

Black Sand Beach
Today we answer a question from Rob who wants to know about where to find the best black sand beach in Hawaii. Arguably the best black sand beach in Hawaii is located on the Big Island. Punallu’u Beach Park on the Hilo side of the island is the most expansive black sand beach in all of Hawaii. It’s a perfect place to spend the day and there’s even a freshwater pond nearby where you can enjoy the scenery and explore this natural wonder.

Island Hopping
Daisy wants to know what happens to your luggage when you have to stop in Honolulu on your way to one of the other islands. Unless you have booked your flights separately for some reason, your luggage will get transferred from one plane to another when traveling to one of the other islands such as Maui. We also talk a little bit about flying into the Kapalua Airport as an alternative to the Kahalui airport which most people flight into when traveling to Maui.

If you have a question you’d like answered please contact us at podcast@hawaii-aloha.com and if we answer your question will send you out a big bag of Hershey macadamia nut kisses for you to enjoy.

Fun activities for Families in Kona

Hawaii Vacation Connection E470

Dole Plantation or Polynesian cultural Center
Today we’re asked about two of the most popular activities on Oahu; The Polynesian Cultural Center & the Dole plantation. Darren, a facebook friend,  wanted to know which is more worthy of his time. We actually don’t recommend the Dole plantation for everyone. We think that for the most part it’s a great activity for families but don’t recommend making a special trip. It’s better to combine a trip to the plantation as part of a trip to the North Shore.

The Best way to book Airfare to Maui
We got a question from Annette who wanted to know if it’s cheaper to book a flight to Honolulu and then book a interisland flight to Maui. In most cases the answer is no. It’s usually much cheaper to book straight through to your final destination. In some cases the airlines will code share which means the interisland portion may be on a different airline than the transpac portion of your flight if you have to go through Honolulu. It’s also better to plan any interisland trip in advance of coming to the islands if you’re looking to save money.

Fun things for Families to do in Kona
Cora from South Dakota is coming to the Big Island in a few weeks and wanted some suggestions about things for a family to do in Kona. We offer some suggestions and ideas about some of the best tours and adventures. One of our favorites to recommend is the zodiac raft and snorkel adventure which is fun for the whole family and all ages. You also don’t want to miss the coffee factories or snorkeling in Kealakekua Bay.

If you have a question you’d like answered drop us a line at podcast@hawaii-aloha.com or on her Facebook page. If we answer your question on the show will send you out a bag of macadamia nut Hershey kisses which you can only find in Hawaii

We offer some suggestions and cover the more common words you can expect to in encounter. Remember not to overdo using some of these common words because some people might take it the wrong way.

Famous movie locations in Hawaii
Have you ever wondered where some of the movies like Jurassic Park which was filmed in Hawaii are located? Formal nights on Hawaiian Cruises
Ron a facebook freind is asking us about formal nights on the NCL Ship the Pride of America. Very often when you take a cruise you have to conform to eating at preselected times and also attending formal events that you may not want to take part in while on a cruise. NCL has a freestyle cruising program which allows you to eat what you want when you want. They have formal nights but they’re completely optional

Nightlife in Waikiki

Nightlife on Oahu
Today we talk about things to do at night on Oahu. Depending on your preferences there’s really something for everybody after the sun sets. In Hawaii we like to Pau Hana which really means relaxing after a hard days work. In Waikiki their several places to do this including some of the more expensive hotels where are you’ll find an open door policy. Even if you don’t stay in these hotels you can enjoy the atmosphere and entertainment. If you’re into sports fishing you can find a great excursion for shark fishing or bottom fishing at night. You also might want to consider a moonlight dinner or one of the evening shows we have such as Society of seven or the Magic of Polynesia. If you’re a young person there’s lots of hip clubs in Chinatown that you can enjoy. We recommend a local website called Nonstophonolulu which lists lots of fun things for young people to do on Oahu.

Shrimp Trucks
Karen one of our Facebook friends asked about the shrimp trucks on the North Shore. She specifically wanted to know about Giovanni’s but there are many shrimp trucks worth considering. A couple of years ago we sponsored a shrimp truck trek tour where we sampled some of the most popular trucks on the North Shore. It was the consensus of the group that Macky’s in Haleiwa was the best.

Lei Greetings
Part of the Hawaii tradition is receiving a lei for special occasions. Very often we package a lei greeting into the itinerary that we plan for folks Hawaii vacations. We arrange for a lei greeter to meet our customers at the airport and present them with this very special welcome. There are lei stands at the airport where you can purchase lei’s to take these back with you for the mainland for gifts. We talk about the options offer suggestions about lei greetings in Hawaii.
