Useful words for a Hawaiian Vacation

Hawaii Vacation Connection E 469

Words you can use
Today we talk about some common Hawaiian words that are most useful to learn before traveling on a Hawaii vacation. It takes a little bit of effort to learn some of the more difficult Hawaiian words or name places however, you won’t really need to learn any Hawaiian to get by while you’re here. We offer some suggestions and cover the more common words you can expect to in encounter. Remember not to overdo using some of these common words because some people might take it the wrong way.

Famous movie locations in Hawaii
Have you ever wondered where some of the movies like Jurassic Park which was filmed in Hawaii are located? We answer a question about where you can see some of these locations that are in some of the famous movies from Hollywood that are filmed in Hawaii. A lot of the movies are shot on the island of Oahu and we talk about where you can see some of these sites.

Formal nights on Hawaiian Cruises
Ron a facebook freind is asking us about formal nights on the NCL Ship the Pride of America. Very often when you take a cruise you have to conform to eating at preselected times and also attending formal events that you may not want to take part in while on a cruise. NCL has a freestyle cruising program which allows you to eat what you want when you want. They have formal nights but they’re completely optional

Nightlife in Waikiki

Nightlife on Oahu
Today we talk about things to do at night on Oahu. Depending on your preferences there’s really something for everybody after the sun sets. In Hawaii we like to Pau Hana which really means relaxing after a hard days work. In Waikiki their several places to do this including some of the more expensive hotels where are you’ll find an open door policy. Even if you don’t stay in these hotels you can enjoy the atmosphere and entertainment. If you’re into sports fishing you can find a great excursion for shark fishing or bottom fishing at night. You also might want to consider a moonlight dinner or one of the evening shows we have such as Society of seven or the Magic of Polynesia. If you’re a young person there’s lots of hip clubs in Chinatown that you can enjoy. We recommend a local website called Nonstophonolulu which lists lots of fun things for young people to do on Oahu.

Shrimp Trucks
Karen one of our Facebook friends asked about the shrimp trucks on the North Shore. She specifically wanted to know about Giovanni’s but there are many shrimp trucks worth considering. A couple of years ago we sponsored a shrimp truck trek tour where we sampled some of the most popular trucks on the North Shore. It was the consensus of the group that Macky’s in Haleiwa was the best.

Lei Greetings
Part of the Hawaii tradition is receiving a lei for special occasions. Very often we package a lei greeting into the itinerary that we plan for folks Hawaii vacations. We arrange for a lei greeter to meet our customers at the airport and present them with this very special welcome. There are lei stands at the airport where you can purchase lei’s to take these back with you for the mainland for gifts. We talk about the options offer suggestions about lei greetings in Hawaii.

The property has 12 miles of hiking trails, and two oceanfront swimming pools, two championship golf courses tennis Center eco-kayak tours, and this year they added a pony experience for kids.

Fun things for kids under 4 on Oahu

Hawaii Vacation Connection E466

The premiere of Hawaii Five-0 season two was finally announced which means Sunset on the Beach will take place on September 10th. This is a chance to see the first episode of the second season before anyone else in the world right here in Hawaii. We have some great packages and events that we created that you can participate in if you’d like to come to Hawaii for this very special occasion.

Oahu wedding location ideas
Oahu is a favorite wedding destination and today we answer a question from one of our Facebook friends who want some suggestions outside of Waikiki and include mountain vistas and the ocean. We offer a couple of places on the Windward side of the island that are perfect for a scenic Hawaii destination wedding. We also talk about our great wedding planner that can do just about anything to make a wedding in Hawaii perfect.

Cruising the Hawaiian Islands
our Facebook friend Carina  wants to know if there any cruise ships sailing to Hawaii that allow you to have more than 12 hours in Honolulu. As we’ve discussed before, we recommend the Pride of America which is in NCL ship leaving from Honolulu every Saturday. What many folks do in order to have more time on Oahu is to come in a day or two before the ship cruises so you have plenty of time to experience all that Oahu has to offer. We discussed this on todays show and offer some suggestions and tips about getting here a few days early.

Fun things for kids under 4
One of our twitter friends wanted a couple of suggestions for a four-year-old when they come to Oahu in a few weeks. I offer my best pics for some things that you and your kids definitely don’t want to miss when traveling to the island of Oahu.

Hidden Maui Beaches

Hawaii Vacations Connection E465

Maui’s Best Beaches
Today we get a question from Perry who asks about what beaches shouldn’t be missed while vacationing on Maui. Today we share some of our favorites. On the east side of the island is Waianapanapa State Park which has an amazing black sand beach. You’ll find a red sand beach there as well which you get to via a private hike behind the Hotel Hana. You’ll also find Koki Beach behind the property. Also, just past Hana town about a mile is Hamoa beach.  Another favorite beach of ours is Mekena beach on the south side of the island.

A Big Mahalo to our friend Marilyn for helping us with this question! Marilyn is the owner with her husband of Maui Country Farm Tours and we highly recommend you check them out if you’re headed to Maui. You’ll experience the beautiful agriculture of the Magic Isle on their tours which they can customize especially to suit your needs.

Cancelling your Hawaii Vacation
Ever wonder what your options are if one person in your trip cancels? That’s a question one of our Facebook friends had which we address on today’s show. For the most part there’s very little you can do with regard to your airfare if someone cancels. Airline tickets are mostly nonrefundable and nontransferable. However if you book tours or have to change the name for your rental car that’s never an issue. Today we discussed this and talk about some suggestions if  situation like that comes up for you before traveling to Hawaii.

Getting the most Value out of your Vacation.
Very often people struggle with how many nights they should stay here in the islands. We usually suggest a minimum of four nights per island. The typical Hawaii vacation is seven days. If you’re traveling from the East Coast it makes no sense to come here for only three or four nights, the reality is if you do that you will be spending most of your time flying to and from Hawaii. We offer some tips and suggestions and our recommendations for how to get the most value out of your Hawaii vacations.

Paradise Bay Resort Review

This weekend we had the opportunity to stay at a resort on the Windward side of Oahu called the Paradise Bay resort. Out of the hustle and bustle of busy Waikiki this property is tucked away in one of my most beautiful areas on the island. While it has a bed-and-breakfast feel you’ll also find a lot amenities that resorts have. There’s continental breakfast daily, maid service and complementary activities such as kayaking, paddleboading and surfing.

On Saturdays you can take a free excursion out to the popular Kaneohe Bay sandbar, on Wednesday nights there’s Hawaiian music and on Saturday nights they have complementary Mojito’s at sunset. Perfect for a Hawaii Family Vacation because you can get two, three and even five bedroom units. Most of the units have been recently renovated and are appointed with a beautiful Balinese theme.

If you want to get out of busy Waikiki and want the real tranquility that Oahu has to offer, this is certainly the place to have a majestic Hawaiian experience.
