Hawaii Tourism Slump

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

Hawaii’s visitor arrivals dropped sixteen point five percent in December, and that contributed to what was an annual decline of almost eleven percent.

Sneak peek at the new Royal Hawaiian Hotel

Today we give you a first look at the newly renovated Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The fact that the Hotel is reopening is big news this month.  After $85 million in renovations, the iconic "Pink Palace" is a shade pinker on the outside and a lot more modern on the inside.  There are new and more modern amenities that demanding high-end travelers now expect: granite-and-glass bathrooms, flat-screen TVs and iPod docking stations, for example.  The makeover closed the hotel for seven months.  We talk about the rich history of this property and how they are bringing Aloha back to the Hawaii vacation experience.

Enjoy Pupu – Hawaii Vacation Hors D’oeuvres Explained

You’ll be eating at a wide variety of restaurants while you’re here, so it’s a good idea to get as familiar as you can ahead of time with some of the menu items you’re likely to encounter. Today we won’t attempt now to help you with entrees, since there are zillions of kinds of restaurants and the menus are so diversified there’s no way to summarize. But all good restaurants have something for you to try first.  Appetizers. Hors D’oeuvres.  We call them pupu. Except in the purely ethnic restaurants, you can expect to find the standards: caviar, shrimp cocktail, escargot, calamari, crab cakes, foie gras, oysters, steak tartare …But you’ll see some offerings that may not sound familiar to you.  Most of them are wonderful!  Here’s what to expect:

We also answer a couple of podcast listener questions and also go over packages that have been booked in the last 24 to 48 hours.
