Local Fruits
Aloha
To all of you fruit lovers this is the blog for you. The islands of Hawaii are home to many exotic fruits that you may be familiar of, but have no idea what they are and how they taste. The local fruits such as papaya, mango, and passion fruit or lilikoi as it is pronounced locally, can be found at its best at the small fruit stands you see on the side of the highways. You will find the freshest and best tasting fruits there. (Which highways, give me a call)
Papaya is a great treat with vanilla ice cream. Just cut the fruit in half, scrap the seeds out, and then use the fruit as a bowl. It is nice as breakfast or for all of you that like to cook with fruit, papaya makes a slammin salsa.
Mangos are a seasonal fruit found here on the islands that probably top my favorites on the fruit chart. You will find mango trees every where in Hawaii, hanging over fences or used to tie a swing to in the front yard. Whatever the case may be, if you are passing by on a hot day and see a tree that is over populated with mangos, a polite knock on the door to ask for a couple usually is no problem. (Make sure to ask me where NOT to do things like that)
Lilikoi or passion fruit is a local fruit that makes a great fresh squeezed drink. Used as a margarita mix, shaved ice flavor, or just as a glass juice. Passion fruit IS something that must be tasted.
