Should I buy Travel Insurance?

Travel Insurance is a optional component to a travel package. Although it’s optional, as a travel agent I say it’s highly advisable to purchase.

Trip Insurance: I read and heard a famous female financial advisor say that she would not recommend insurance if it’s only for air fare that was $200, but if your vacation package total is $1000 or more you would have to ask yourself, could you afford to loose a $1000 or more if something unexpected happened and you could not take your trip? And that is a very important question to ask yourself when you are planning your vacation. Travel agents and travel vendors will offer you to purchase travel insurance. It’s important that you understand what the insurance covers. Most travel insurance will only cover if you cancel due to a medical reason. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, you have a limited time to decide (usually within 7days of your travel package purchase) if you want to purchase the insurance.

The reason for the travel insurance is that the airlines, hotel, cruise and car vendors will impose a penalty fee to cancel their reservation that you have  paid for. Travel Agencies will also charge you a fee to cancel a reservation made with them. These penalty fees will be as much as the total of your package, a one nights hotel stay or a 1 day car rental. Every travel vendor’s penalty fees and rules for cancelling will defer from one another. Please ask your travel agent on what the cost would be if you need to cancel this trip and ask yourself the question…."can I afford to loose this money should I need to cancel?"

Car Rental Insurance: Call you personal car insurance carrier or credit card company to see if your account with them cover’s you when you rent a car while on vacation.

Should I insure my luggage?: Check with the airlines on their liability on lost luggage. The last time I looked on the back of my airline ticket jacket it said I was covered up to $2,500 for checked luggage that was lost or damaged.

I hope that helps you in deciding if you need to purchase the insurance that I will offer you when you book a travel package with Hawaii Aloha Travel. Remember to ask yourself the big question: "Can I afford to loose this much money should something  happen and I need to cancel my trip?

Choosing a Hotel in Hawaii

If you have not travel to Hawaii before, choosing  a Hotel can be intimidating on your own. All the clients that reach our company by phone or via our live chat are very happy to get live agents in Hawaii that can make getting a reservation at one of the many hotels here Hawaii easy.  Most of us live here in Hawaii and have for all our lives. Let us help you choose the hotel that meets your travel preference and/or budget.
I hope these tips will help you when you call us to book your Hotel  with Hawaii Aloha Travel. We don’t just book hotels, we book all components of travel. Most recently we expanded our services to other major travel destinations, whether it be by Air, Boat or Car.
Hotel vs. Condo

Condo’s offer the same facilities that Hotels offer at sometimes a lower rate. Condo’s have the normal….sheets, spreads, towels, shampoo/conditioner, phone, TV.  Some Condo’s will have a full kitchen or kitchenette ( that have pots and pans, coffee makers). I would recommend a condo if you are planning to stay in Hawaii longer than just a few days and if you want to save money on the food budget of your trip. A condo is great to have breakfast in and to get sandwiches and a cooler ready for your day out at the beach or touring around the island. The clients that I book a condo for are mostly those with children and on a budget for the reasons above. Condo’s come with Maid service either daily (for full service) or daily just to change out the towels. Some private condo rentals will charge a additional fee to the daily rate for maid service. Details such as this will be explained when you book a condo.
Where in Waikiki do I stay?
Waikiki strip (Kalakaua Ave) is about 2 miles long and about 4 blocks wide. Any hotel you stay at will be in walking distance to the Beach. Of course the closer to the beach the pricier the hotel rates will be.
So then where do I stay you ask? Well it would all depend on your travel preference and/or budget.
We have more moderate hotels to sell, with budget hotels coming in next and then we have 5 star deluxe resorts. I would always recommend a Deluxe Resort 1st as it has the most amenities and service. They are located right on the beach. If someone can’t fit the price of a resort into their travel budget then I would ask what other features of accommodations would they 1st prefer and take them from there to find the right hotel.
When you are searching on line and see all the beautiful photo’s of the room for a particular property,…..please don’t let that photo fool you. Yes, the hotel has a room that looks like that, but normally those rooms are the very best for that particular property and it’s not the lowest rate the hotel offers.
I will get travelers that will call and say they book something online with a big travel booking engine  and the photo they showed is not the room I received, "I don’t like this hotel and need to stay elsewhere."  Well, a lot of times (depending on the season you travel), I may or may not be able to get a reservation for you last minute. So my advise is to call us and ask us questions about the hotel we book for you. Our staff (myself included) have done many site inspections of the properties here in Hawaii so we are more than skilled in our profession to recommend the right property for your travel preference and/or budget.
Rates
The hotels offer us many contract rates to sell and promotional rates. These are the rates we will sell first, if available. If not we will sell you the best available rate the hotel is offering for your dates of stay. Most of our hotel rates require payment within 7 days of booking, either with as little as a $50.00 deposit per person or the full payment. Most holiday rates will require full payment and may be non-refundable. Most rates are per person based on double occupancy. Meaning if you travel alone you still the rate for two guest.
When do I book?
The sooner the better. Especially if you plan to come to Hawaii during the Holiday Season. I recommend taking our cancellation waiver insurance (39.00 per person) to cover any possible fees that incur if you change or cancel a held room.

Are Hotel in Hawaii All-Inclusive?
Hotels booked ala-carte with air and/or car do not include meals. Some properties will include breakfast if that particular promotion is offered.
City View or Ocean View?
Rates for these categories will differ…of course City View being the least inexpensive category. The answer would be again preference of the traveler. My opinion on this is,….I have stayed at both type of categories. And, in the day the Ocean is beautiful, however when you get back to your room at night,  you cannot see the ocean well at night. Then you have the City View, in the day it’s nice and if you have the Mountain View room Diamond Head is not a bad site to see. However the Honolulu City lights are beautiful. If you have a room that faces the city and you have a view of Kalakaua Ave or Kuhio Ave, the city lights are beautiful.
Well, I hope that helps you in planning a trip to Hawaii and choosing a hotel. Please take a look at our links for hotels at hawaii-aloha.com. We have a lot of information on each of the hotels listed. Some of them included photo’s we took from our personal site inspections of the property. We have testimonies from agents that have stayed at these properties too.
Call me so that I can help you choose the right accommodations for your stay here in beautiful Hawaii. It will be my pleasure to assist you.

I am Back!!! Pride of America 3/31- 4/7

I am back from a wonderful vacation cruising on the Pride of America.
My intentions were to write a blog everyday on each island that we sailed into.  By the second day, everything was going so fast…the days were filled with stuff to do. By the time I got back to the cabin and turned on the computer, I would fall asleep.  So here we go with everything I can share about my trip and experience on the Pride of America.
March 31, we departed Honolulu. I personally got on the ship late as I worked a 1/2 day schedule. The ship will allow people to get on as early as 1pm, but your cabin may not be cleaned and available for you to check into. When you check in your bags, make sure to keep one bag with you with extra clothes and important things that you will need as your bags that you check in with the port will not be delivered till early evening. I got our bags around 7pm in the evening. It was a good thing that we dress appropriate getting on board. Even though NCL is all about "free style" cruising, they still have a dress policy for the certain restaurants. They were pretty lenient the 1st night as they knew guest would not have their luggage to later in the evening.
When you 1st get on board, try to make your reservation for the next evenings dinner if you plan to eat at one of the finer dinning establishments. On this ship it was "Jefferson’s Bistro", "Little Italy", "East meets West", "Lazy J’s Steakhouse". The cover charge for these restaurants are from $15-$20 per person. Reservations for these restaurants can only be made 1 day in advance and they fill up fast. The main dinning room will take restaurant reservations for a party of 5 or more. We only had 2 of us, and our wait time was no longer than 10 minutes. We made sure to eat early (around 5pm - 6pm nightly). I think later in the evening it gets busier.
The 1st day is full of excitement for everyone. The cruise has all kind of stuff to start the cruise celebration. From 6:30pm till 10pm music, dance and contest were part of the celebration. Even the Kids from 2 - 12 years that their own celebration activities.
April 1, we arrived in Hilo. See my blog on April 1 for stuff I did. After we got back to the ship that evening I talked with guest to see what kind of stuff they did. The majority did the Volcanoes National Park Tour. You can get on the tour as early as 8:45am till the latest 12:15pm. The tour takes 5 Hours. The cost will run you $54 per adult. Other just walked around the Hilo town. It’s a 15 min walk to the town. When I say town it’s the area on Banyan Drive were the hotels are. There are wonderful parks to walk thru and take photo’s. There are 20 other shore activities to choose from. Check NCL.com under shore excursions for more details.
When I got back from day with family/friends, I meet a vendor that rents bikes that you an tour the town of Hilo. If we didn’t have plans with our family/friends then this is what I would have chose to do. I have already seen the Volcano, so a ride on a bike thru the town would have been nice. My daughter wished we had done that too. Well, maybe on the next cruise. The evening on the ship was full of entertainment, We saw a comedy show, we joined the Black Sand Party at Pool side. Then the ship sailed to were the Volcano flowed off the side of the island, it was a awesome hour view of mother nature at one of her best moments. If we had the energy to stay up, we could have joined the Karaoke Party and Country Line Dancing that was held till late into the evening.
April 2, we arrived in Maui for a overnight stay. I picked up a car rental for the day and drove around Maui at leisure. I started by going to Makawao were they have the best Long John Pastry and Cookies (of course I brought cookies home to share with family and friends), then we drove down to Kihei to check out some hotel and beaches in the area, we then drove to Kaanapali to check out more hotels and beaches (checking out the hotels is part of my job so that I can make proper recommendations to clients), We then spent the afternoon at Whalers Village doing what a girl likes best…"Shopping!!". Before heading back to the ship, we stopped at Maui Ocean Center for a quick tour. You will need at least a 1/2 day for this venue and you add on a Whale watching too. We then headed back to the ship. You can get on at any time of the evening. Port agents are there all night to receive guest back on. If you do rent a car and plan to return it the next day, I would advise that you get back to the ship early as overnight parking is limited and some guest experience their car rentals were towed the next morning (Signs are posted all over that you can’t park in certain areas, but if you come back to the ship late and don’t find parking you take a risk parking just any where).
The evening activities: "Who wants to be a Basillionaire" game hosted by our Cruise Director, Big Band Music @ 8pm, Karaoke @ 9pm, Pride of America Crew Show @ 9:30pm…..this was so cool to see the talent of the employees, they did some cool stuff, and very entertaining. Midnight dancing in the Mardi Gras Lounge.
April 3, this was our second day in Maui. We just stayed on the ship to enjoy the activities offered. My daughter, went to join the fun at the "Teen Club". They did stuff with the kids from 9am -12pm, then from 2pm - 5pm, and again from 7pm - 10pm. This allows the grown ups to do things that would normally boar anyone under 17yrs…..or that’s what my daughter thought.  For me, there was a morning trivia game (fun), Movie: Over the Hedge in the cruise theatre. From 2pm till Sundown, the pool deck has all kind of activities. Then in the evening a group called "Three Mo Tenors" performed 2 shows (each were different than they other), Chris Alpine did another comedy show. and Midnight Dancing.
April 4th, we arrived in Kona. Kona does not have a pier to doc at so you get tendered in. The tender ride was only about 15 min and it ran all day back and forth from ship to shore. A lot of people got off to do shopping for souvenirs at Hilo Hattie, others I found out did water excursions, for us we just cruised Kona town by feet. Actually, my daughter didn’t bring enough clothes and we needed to wash what she had. Because I knew the Kona town area, I knew where to go. When other passengers saw us bring our clothes they wanted to know where the Laundromat was as they needed to do the same thing. Some passengers mentioned to me that they wished their travel agent mentioned little things like where a Laundromat was located on one of the port stops. After the clothes were washed (about 1 hour), we), we walked thru Kona town, checked the Kona Museum out, …we just took it easy. I talked with one passenger that did a shore excursion that involved a Kona Coffee Farm tour. He and his wife really enjoyed it. I did this tour before and yes, anyone that chooses this for their shore excursion will not be disappointed. Check out the full description of this tour at ncl.com and click on shore excursions for Kona.
The evening on the ship was fun…..we had Lobster for dinner in the main dinning room. I ate 3 of them….yikes!!, but it was so good. For the evening entertainment we had a Magic Show by Dave Cox and the No-so-Newlywed Comedy Game show. Both were so entertaining. The midnight dance party was themed "50’s Rock in Roll Party.
April 5th, we arrived in Nawiliwili Kauai. We started out early with a car rental. I knew our plans were to go to the Waimea Canyon and the ride would be about 1 1/2 hours plus time to check out the Canyon. Other passengers took the tour buses to the Canyon. Kauai is not hard to drive at all. It’s a small island and the maps are precise. Road signage was excellent. If you do rent a car there is also overnight parking at the ship, but again limited.  Wow!!!, the Waimea Canyon was a beautiful site. I totally recommend you see, whether on a tour excursion or renting a car and getting their on your own. On our way back to Lihue, there was a community craft fair, so we stopped and picked up a few things. We stopped by the Kauai Cookie Factory, we cruised down Poipu to check out the beach. We returned the car early and headed back to the ship. The evening events were another comedy show by Full Impact, they did 2 shows and each were different than the other, Karaoke and a Band did a show dedicated to the 70’s.
April 6th, 2nd day in Kauai, because this was our last full day, we just stayed on the ship and enjoyed the pool and all the pool side activities. Most of the passengers had the same idea. My daughter joined the "Teen Club" which had a Pajama party for the kids from 7pm till 10pm. For the Adults, you had your choice of a comedy show, music  show, dancing, Karaoke, everything was happening on this the last evening of our 7 day cruise. Of course we had to have our last cruise dinner, which was a repeat menu of the 1st day, but it was good that having it 7 days later was not a problem. The meal was a Skirt Steak with purple sweet potatoes mashed and a papaya salsa, but for the appetizer we had scallops and shrimp, dessert was a Macadamia Nut crème burle. After dinner I just went back to the room to get our bags packed. Luggage needs to be ready by 12midnight so that the crew can take it to ready to come off the ship the next morning and be ready for what ever activity you are planning to do in Honolulu. Once our bags were packed I got my daughter from the Pajama party  and joined the farewell dance party @ 11pm.
April 7th, we arrived back in Honolulu to disembark from this wonderful cruise we just experienced. I really enjoyed myself, and plan to take this cruise again in the future. I think my advantage is that I live in Hawaii and don’t need to pay for airfare. I know if you choose to cruise aboard any of the 3 ships currently in Hawaii, you will not be disappointed.
Call me to get a quote started for your preferred travel dates. I look forward to sharing my experience with you and assisting you in creating special Hawaii memories with your family as I did with mine.

April 2 and 3 - will be here in Maui for a overnight stay.

Will update Blog with all that we did shortly.

Pride of America April 1 -check in/departure

Aloha,

Today we boarded the Pride of America in Honolulu (My daughter and I)

Our Cabin is a Balcony Room on deck 11. Cabin is really nice, the bedding is 2 long twins that can be converted together to make 1 bed. In certain cabins (quad or triple) comes with a sofa sleeper that can fit 2 people. When you pull out the sofa sleeper it does not leave much walk space, so better to open it when it’s shut eye time. The cabin has 4 drawers (small) in the cabinetry. The closet has shelves and wire baskets to store your clothes. Hangers are also available in the closet. Luggage fits nicely under the beds so it does not block the walk way in the cabin. The bath room is a stand up shower, toilet and sink. There is a shelf available for toiletry items and a corner medicine cabinet. Shampoo and Soap is provided in an installed dispenser in the shower. You will need to bring a bottle of conditioner for the ladies with tangled hair. A refrigerator, coffee maker, glasses and ice tub are provided in the room. A TV and internet service to check emails is also provided in the cabin. The room attendants are always available to help with cleaning to the cabin to turning down the bed. They keep you updated with daily activities by putting a schedule in your room daily. So you can plan in advance what you will be doing the next day.

If you missed bringing anything from home, they have a shopping deck with a sundries shop and a clothing store. Prices are not outrageous.

Dinner: Wow, the food is great….lots to eat on the ship. I can’t guarantee you will have the same menu we did, but no matter what they cook up the food is great!!! We had a shrimp and scallop appetizer, skirt steak with mash potatoes w/papaya salsa….(so good), then for dessert we had lilikoi (passion fruit) sherbet.

The 1st night of the cruise has all kinda stuff going on from music groups to dancing and talks with the Hawaii Ambassador to get advice on your next’s day shore activities. It’s a big celebration to start the cruise off.

Tomorrow we head to Hilo.

Photo’s will be updated on future blog.

Please feel free to email me if I can check on a quote for you to sail aboard any of the 3 ships that sail here in Hawaii.

Are you over-whelmed booking online?

Today I had a customer who tried to book her vacation online and got so over-whelmed with the process. After giving up she call Hawaii Aloha Travel and appreciated our goal as a company and as agents to assist you in booking a package that meets your travel preference and/or budget.

We are just like agents you would find in a front line retail agency. It’s just that we assist you over the phone instead of in person. You still get the personal assistance you would get from a retail agency. And who better to book your package than agents who live right here in the Islands.

We can book you a simple Air/Room package to All Inclusive Packages. If you have a Time share reserved and just need the air flight, we can do just that for you too. We have great whole-sale fares.

Give me a call or email me your travel request. I look forward to giving you the best customer service and finding you a Hawaii Travel Package that meets your preference and/or Budget.

Welcome to Hawaii

Just the other day I needed to go out to the Honolulu Airport to meet a client and hand deliver some travel documents. While walking thru the lobby I felt this really awesome spirit….The spirit of Hawaii. I saw that same awesome spirit on the smiles of the tourist I passed by.

Some were just arriving and on their face anticipation and excitement to start their vacation. Other’s were standing in line to check in for their departure flight and the look  I read on their  face was regret that the vacation was over and when will we be back.

I really enjoy my career as a travel agent. I enjoy being a part of creating a vacation package that meets a clients budget, a package that meets their specific travel needs and to just be a part of the memories that will be made here in Hawaii.

I am happy to share where I live with my clients. I treat them like I was selling travel to a family member and share my experiences as if we were talking story at the dinner table.

I think that’s what makes ALL the agents at Hawaii Aloha Travel special and unique. We all enjoy what we do and will help you in any way that we can to help create the dream vacation that you are looking for.

Check out our website: Hawaii-Aloha.com  and Welcome to Hawaii.

Give me a call, I look forward to assisting you with your travel plans or to simply answer a questions about Hawaii that you might have.

Traveling to Hawaii with Children

A lot of recent bookings  have been from Families traveling with Children. The popular questions is: "which islands will my kids have the most fun?" My answer, every island offers something unique for everyone, children included. Fun depends on what type of activities your children are interested in. The beach can offer hours of fun for a kid, but if you are a mommy like me and don’t want my kid out in the sun for long hours due to sun damage, some hotels offer great “Keiki” (Children, Kid) programs. Here is what the Hilton Hawaiian Village offers.

If you would like more information, have questions or if you are ready to book a reservation at he Hilton Hawaiian Village, feel free to give me a call. I look forward to personally assisting you with your travel plans.

Pearl Harbor “65th” Anniversary

"A Nation Remembers" was the theme of this years celebration. Most of the survivors are age 86-87. They don’t feel they can make it back again and were honored during the celebration. NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw was a special guest speaker at this year’s ceremony.
