Pearl Harbor “65th” Anniversary

"A Nation Remembers" was the theme of this years celebration. Most of the survivors are age 86-87. They don’t feel they can make it back again and were honored during the celebration. NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw was a special guest speaker at this year’s ceremony.

Pearl Harbor is definitely a must see attraction when you visit Hawaii. Here are some details of a tour of Pearl Harbor.

Explorer’s Tour: Get an impressive look into the ship’s impressive fire rooms, machinery and working areas. While donning special equipment and using flashlights to assist you, you’ll penetrate the depths of the Mighty Mo and visit areas of the ship RESTRICTED to all other visitors.

View the Missouri’s Post Office and walk through the crew’s berthing area as it was left in 1992 at the ship’s decommissioning.

See the machine shop where crew members manufactured nearly any repair piece the ship required at sea, before descending within the armor belt to “Broadway,” the long passageway that connects all Missouri’s fire and engine rooms and is the length of the WWII submarine. Switchboards and pre-war vintage computers that controlled the battleship’s gigantic 16-inch gun turrets and 5-inch guns are viewed off Broadway in “Battery Plot.”

Guests also see the crew’s galley, where cooks labored around the clock to feed the Missouri’s 2,500 man crew, the prison or “BRIG,” Barbershop, laundry and dry cleaning shop, and huge presses and washing machines.
