It’s the ole’ airfare controversy. To buy or not to buy ‘yet’!

You say you want to come to Hawaii for a vacation..but hear the airfares will be lower after the New Year, so you’re contemplating .. buy now, or wait.

Did you know that booking a pkg thru Hawaii Aloha Travel allows you to apply a minimum deposit of $50 - $125 per person?
This allows you to reserve space as far as 300 days out, and gives you the peace of mind that you have a reservation without emptying your piggy bank.
And hear this, as this is the best part..if the airfare goes down, we are able to get that lower fare for you. You are not locked into the airfare…you have simply and logically reserved your space
.

What if the airfare doesn’t go down?
You’ve waited a few months for an airfare decrease, which hasn’t happened! You can bet the airfare you saw a few months back has now increased.
Perhaps significantly!  Play it safe folks.  Make your reservation now with a minimum deposit and feel good knowing that we will get that lower airfare for you, if in fact the airfare does decrease.

Contemporary Museum at First Hawaiian Center

Presently there is a wonderful exhibit of Contemporary Fiber Art.If you are visiting the islands, I recommend
this exhibit as is incredibly fascinating!

My mom, Pam Barton,  a very talented artist, has two of her pieces on display.  In fact, her two pieces were selected and awarded by the state, which is a big honor. Chek out the video below … we chat about her works… however, with the background noise it is hard to hear. Keeping in mind that at these openings, there are complimentary cocktails, and heavy pupu’s..needless to say its quite festive!

Located downtown Honolulu at First Hawaiian Bank on the corner of Bishop & Merchant.
This exhibit is on display thru January 13, 2009.

Enjoy!  Call me at 1-800-843-8771 ext 31 and I will be happy to share any further details.  ……………….Aloha, Kalei

Visit Iolani Palace during your Hawaii Vacation

While on Oahu, visit Iolani Palace, a fascinating museum, offering interesting Hawaiian history and dating back to the 1800’s.

For me, Iolani Palace is so much a part of my life.  In my youth, Iolani Palace was the Capitol Building. My mom, was receptionist/secretary for Governor John A Burns.
In the summer months, I would take hula, ukulele, & swimming lessons at the YWCA, which is right across the street from the Palace grounds.  At the end of the day, I’d walk over to Iolani Palace and wait for mom to finish work. So, for me, Iolani Palace is very close to my heart as cherished childhood memories.

(After visiting Iolani Palace walk over to Chinatown to indulge in tasty restaurants, shop in the quaint asian specialty stores, or visit the open markets with a vast array of local fruits, veggies, and more!)

Iolani Palace, situated in the capitol district of downtown Honolulu on the island of Oahu, is the only royal palace used as an official residence by a reigning monarch in the United States and is a National Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Two monarchs governed from ʻIolani Palace: King David Kalākaua and Queen Liliʻuokalani.

Restoration

Then Governor of Hawaiʻi, John A. Burns, oversaw the construction of the Hawaiʻi State Capitol directly behind ʻIolani Palace. When the new capitol building was completed in 1969, Governor Burns decided to vacate all government offices from ʻIolani Palace and undertake an ambitious restoration project. He envisioned the return of ʻIolani Palace to the people of Hawaiʻi in memory of the beloved royal family that had resided in it decades before. When restoration was completed, ʻIolani Palace was opened to the public in 1978. Today guided tours are given most mornings, and visitors can take individualized audio tours at their leisure. Special events are also held there.

Stand Up paddle Surf during your Hawaii Vacation

Aloha! My newest venture, along with many other Kama’aina’s and Malahini’s as well, is the stand up paddle surfing.. Its a blend of surfing and paddling, and is an excellent core work out.  Board sizes range from 12′ length x 34" width x 5" thickness.. Of course, wider, thicker boards provide more stability.

Because this is a newer sport in the islands, many board vendors are more than willing to meet you at the beach with a quiver of boards in all sizes.. which is the best way to find your perfect match.  I started with the wider, thicker boards, then quickly realized that a good core workout should not be easy, so changed to the 28" or 29" width x 4" thick, this is lighter too.. making it easier to get going and get into the waves.

Traveling with these boards on my car roof rack, allows me to go anywhere..we train for speed at Ala Moana, sprinting against each other , then head out to Cock-a Roach Bay (near Sea Life Park) or Haleiwa for moving ocean & wave action, as waves, ocean bumps are much more difficult providing a work out from head to toe.

I hope you get a chance to try this on your next visit to paradise..its ideal for everyone of all ages.
Give me a call..and I’ll hook you up!

Lucky we Live Hawaii

Here’s why I live here in Hawaii and why I wouldn’t live anywhere else!

I am an avid athlete, competing and exceling in extreme sports for the past 40 yrs.. Traveling worldwide for competition..Thailand, Australia, Fiji, New York…I’m at a point where my joints are now screaming at me, for what else..over usage.

Here is my trylical routine, I am usually in the gym 5x’s a week, indulging in cycle, weight lifting, core, and shadow box classes to name a few.. Being older & wiser now, I’ve decided to listen to my screaming joints. Recently changing my work outs from the gym to the Ocean. Its the best change I could’ve made and living here in paradise, where the ocean temperature is always perfect.. allows me to have this ocean workout any time, every day, all year.

My better half and I swim 1 - 2 hrs in the mornings and sometimes go back in the evening and hana hou (do it again). Our Ocean is so inviting, this feels so good and I must admit my body is loving this too.
