Maui Attractions

Maui is Hawaii's second largest island with 727.2 square miles of tropical paradise. Maui has a great deal of attractions to offer tourists of all ages and tastes. Whether you want to relax or go on an adventure, your Maui vacation will be packed with things to do.
West Maui attractions are mostly in the town of Lahaina, located close to Kaanapali Beach. Lahaina is popular among shoppers and also features many historic sites such as the whaling ship Carthaginian, Baldwin Home, Banyan Tree and the Maria Lanakila Church. On the northern edge of Lahaina at Puunoa Point is the Lahaina Jodo Mission, which is home to the largest Great Buddha statue outside of Japan. Whalers Village, an open-air shopping center, is just a few miles north of Lahaina.

West Maui's North Shore, located north from Kaanapali through Honokowai and Kapalua, offers breathtaking rugged coastlines and beaches. Mokuleia Bay and Honolua Bay are not well known attractions, but are great places to unwind or snorkel in the beautiful waters. While driving, be sure to stop at Honokohau's rugged Boulder Beach and hike to Nakalele Point, Maui's most northern point. Here you can view the famous Nakalele Blowhole.

Central Maui is home to Maui's largest town, Kahului. Kahului is a commercial town with shopping complexes and centers. Wailuku features many ancient churches, a museum and antique stores and also is the gateway to one of the most beautiful places in Hawaii, the Iao Valley. At Iao Valley you can view the Iao Needle, a natural rock formation presiding over the Iao Stream.

Kihei Coast of South Maui features the Kealia Pond Bird Sanctuary and the Ma'alaea Bay and Beach near the town of Kihei. The well-known Grand Wailea Resort is located in Wailea as you leave Kihei. As you drive south of Wailea you will find beautiful beaches and will enter Makena. Makena offers very diverse geology that is amazing to observe.

In addition to these Maui attractions, there are many other attractions in Maui to make it one of the most exciting tourist destinations in Hawaii. You may need to come back again and again to experience it all.
