You’ve made the decision. You’re going to be married in Hawaii. Great decision!
Compared to many other states, Hawaii makes it easy for you.
You need a license, of course. It costs $60. Once you have it, there’s no waiting period before the marriage can take place. There are no state residence or U.S. citizenship requirements. The license is good on all the islands. Blood tests are not required. Both of you have to be 18 or older (Otherwise there are consent rules). The license will expire in 30 days.
Here’s the simple process:
The prospective bride and groom must appear together in person before a marriage license agent to apply. (Proxies are not allowed.) An official application must be completed and filed in person with the marriage license agent. Your application will be provided by your marriage license agent or one can be downloaded easily ((We can provide this link, yes?)) to be filled out ahead of time. (The application will not be accepted if sent in by either postal mail or e-mail.) Once the application’s approved, the license is issued immediately.
Since you need to be there in person, make a note of where to do it:
In Honolulu, go to Room 101 (1st floor) of the Health Department Building at 1250 Punchbowl St. (corner of Beretania and Punchbowl Streets), Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
You can get the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of marriage agents in the rural and suburban areas of Oahu by calling (808) 586-4544.
To get the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of marriage agents on the neighbor islands, call the local office of the Department of Health, as follows:
