Maui Whale Watching

Each year, from about November through April, more than about 5,000 whales visit the Hawaiian Islands each year.  That’s about two-thirds of the North Pacific stock of humpback whales that migrate from their Alaska feeding grounds.

Watch whales frolic in their winter home, the deep blue waters between the islands of Maui, Moloka'i, Lana'i, and Kaho'olawe. This shallow, protected area provides an ideal location for humpback whales to give birth to their young.”

Sightings of these playful behemoths, which have been seen as large as 50 feet in Hawaii and weigh about one ton per foot, have evoked many excited cries from the passengers and crew of the Prince Kuhio.

We offer our daily "guaranteed" whale watch cruises from approximately December 15th through March 31st. With its superb viewing deck, the Prince Kuhio offers its guests the guarantee that there will be whale sightings or their next whale watch cruise aboard the Prince Kuhio will be complimentary.

The best way to watch whales is out in their domain on a whale watch cruise. The Prince Kuhio is the ideal boat for a complete whale watching and sightseeing experience. Its large observation deck rides about 15 feet above the water for unobstructed viewing, and the main cabin below has large bay windows.

We also have a marine naturalist to provide expert commentary to make our whale watch the best on Maui. Passengers returning from our whale watching cruises often exclaim "This was the best whale watch I’ve ever been on," "The naturalist was wonderful and very informative," "I couldn’t believe how close the whales came to the boat! It was awesome1."  A whale watch cruise during the months of mid-Dec through March is a “must do” while visiting the enchanting island of Maui.

The Prince Kuhio cruises along the Kihei coastline and throughout the Ma’alaea Bay area and beyond where many humpbacks mate, calve and raise their young. Come see a mother whale frolic with her young calf or leap exuberantly out of the water for an absolutely unforgettable experience.
